Today Mercury Broadbands rapidly expanding network is headquartered in Kansas City and provides Internet access to communities throughout six states across the Midwest.

Position Summary : The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting internal operations across all office locations.

This is a senior position. The ideal candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert in network infrastructure and network hardware and will have extensive in-depth knowledge of Active Directory, Azure, AWS, VMware ESXi and IP routing protocols.

Experience with provisioning, deprovisioning, and digital license administration of Windows-based systems, MDM and Remote Help Desk is required.

This role will also be responsible for supporting internal users with hardware, software, network connectivity, and the general IT needs of the companys workforce.

A deep knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols is mandatory. Occasional day and overnight travel to other markets will be required.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Evaluate, recommend, design and manage network and infrastructure hardware and protocol stacks
  • Answer, manage, and resolve third tier help desk support tickets
  • Provision, track, and replace assets through their life cycle
  • Make recommendations to management on new technologies
  • Provision VPN access for Company personnel, gather and enforce GPO policies from managers
  • Provision building access and badging using internal security systems
  • Provide internal help desk and remote support to existing work force for IT related issues
  • Manage internal networks including Wi-Fi, cabling, device deployment, and device management
  • Monitor internal networks and troubleshoot complex LAN and WAN issues
  • Document network, server and environment configurations, create extensive system documentation and standard operating procedures, use best practices
  • Knowledge share and continually upskill other members of the IT team
  • Facilitate communication between the Company, Systems Administration, and other Lines of Business

Skills and Requirements :

  • 10+ years of technical experience in enterprise grade network administration
  • 10+ years of experience in network and server architecture and deployment
  • Strong proven knowledge of network protocols (BGP, OSPF, CARP, etc.)
  • Excellent firewall and QoS knowledge a must, Meraki knowledge mandatory
  • Experience with design and documentation of complex multi-site networks, system design, virtualization, redundancy, recovery, scripting, business continuity and disaster recovery required
  • Subject Matter Expert in Active Directory, deep understanding of FSMO roles, Forest merges, OUs and GPOs
  • Expert in Azure, AWS, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Linux, Android, and MDM environments. macOS and iOS a bonus but not necessary
  • Knowledge of cloud Microsoft Exchange required
  • VMware ESXi and other hypervisor proficiency required
  • Ability to work the entire OSI stack required
  • Microsoft Intune, ScaleFusion or other MDM, SCCM and / or PDQ Deploy experience mandatory
  • RADIUS and MFA experience required
  • Extensive Scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, PHP, bash / zsh, Puppet, or Ansible required
  • Ubiquiti Unifi systems full stack applications and systems required
  • SAN, LUN and iSCSI background required
  • Mergers and Acquisitions background a bonus
  • Docker and Kubernetes exposure a bonus
  • Project Management exposure a bonus
  • Exposure to Asterix PBX a bonus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Position required to work from Mission, Kansas office and occasionally travel overnight. This is not a remote position.

Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to maneuver and work safely in confined or tight spaces.
  • Ability to walk, squat, and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to use various screens for extended periods.

Education Requirements :

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field
  • CISCO Network Engineer certification preferred. Other network certification considered
  • AWS and / or Azure certifications required
