Job Summary

The UCSF California Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi) is seeking a Project Manager to oversee policy and advocacy efforts and provide overall project management of earned grants within the organization.

They will be responsible for conducting research, legislative analysis, writing for grants and policy papers, stakeholder facilitation, advocacy event planning, and administrative management for multiple programs or projects.

One such project is the Human Placenta Cell Atlas in Diverse Ancestry Populations (Atlas) project, a research collaboration between UCSF, Stanford, and WashU to sequence every cell in diverse placental samples and examine the communication of the cells.

The findings will inform the development of molecular interventions that may improve adverse birth outcomes, such as preterm birth, and better explain disparities between groups from different ancestries.

Preterm birth and other adverse birth outcomes disproportionately impact women of color. Black, Latine, and Asian communities are at even greater risk due to racism and structural inequities.

The Atlas Community Advisory Board (Atlas CAB) has expertise in community engagement and community partnered research practices, and this role will provide expert project management of the monthly CAB meetings, developing written and multimedia materials, website management, liaising between researchers and CAB, community payments, and support for research dissemination.

At the grant's end, this role will lead the planning of a one-day symposium showcasing the Atlas project and the work of the Atlas CAB.

This position is expected to lead PTBi's policy and advocacy work, build community and capacity with internal and external partners, and expertly move assigned projects forward smoothly, accountably, and professionally.

The role reports to the Associate Director and the person in it will need to be able to work independently and collaboratively with our staff, the team of directors, our policy core advocates, community members, and others on our team to execute on our policy and advocacy strategic plan, build our policy research capacity, build a network of Black maternal health advocates, lead policy events, and connect our research portfolio and dissemination efforts to policy action.

A successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the Black maternal health crisis, thorough knowledge of the California and U.

S. legislative system, a passion and strong voice for advocacy, and a highly organized, proactive work ethic and attention to detail.

As directed by the Associate Director, this position will also work on special projects or assignments with professionalism and discretion.

They will set priorities and evaluate workflow to ensure delivery of quality content and work to various constituencies.

The successful candidate must have the ability to balance numerous deadlines and shifting priorities. A sense of humor and strong teamwork skills are encouraged.

The UCSF California Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi) is a multi-year, transdisciplinary research effort to reduce the burden of prematurity among those at highest risk for preterm birth - women and birthing people of color.

PTBi brings together academic researchers from different disciplines, healthcare providers, departments of public health, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to work in partnership with affected communities.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $116,700 (Annual Rate).
