Position Summary & Responsibilities :
Position Summary :
This is a supervisory position. This position performs correctional work, maintains order, and supervises offenders at the El Dorado Correctional Facility ensuring that order, discipline, and secure and sanitary conditions are established and maintained in all areas and during all activities throughout the facility.
The CSI serves as a first line supervisor for COI’s and COII’s assigned to the living unit or as a relief OIC, providing leadership, guidance, and assistance.
- The incumbent provides on-the-job training and oversight of work performance; completes or oversees shakedowns, offender searches, enforces policies, rules and regulations for offenders and staff;
- responds to emergency situations in accordance with appropriate contingency plans; completes or assists with disciplinary hearings;
provides supervision and feedback to assigned subordinate staff, submits and / or reviews reports and logs as required.

High School Diploma / GED or equivalent
Licensing & Certification
Valid Kansas Driver’s License
Minimum Qualifications
- Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for COI A
- Be at least 20 years of age at the time of appointment
- Have two years of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders
- Have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (CTOP)
- At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong problem-solving skills; good oral and written communication skills; effective conflict management skills; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and effective customer service skills;
ability to adapt to new situations and / or changes. The incumbent must be capable of performing established Essential Physical Functions.
An initial 6-month probationary period is required for new or promoted employees.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements
Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency;
and possess a valid Driver’s License. Upon offer of employment, the selected candidate must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance within 10 days of the job offer.
The certificate can be obtained by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws.
A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. If an individual who has been offered employment cannot provide proof of a tax clearance certificate, the individual will be required to enter into a payment plan with KDOR and remain current on such payment plan or make other arrangements with KDOR to achieve the tax clearance required under Executive Order 2004-03.
