CRS also administers the market-leading Green-e® programs, which offer independent environmental and consumer protection standards and certification for buyers and producers of renewable energy.
CRS is seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager or Director to lead advisory service engagements in the field of renewable energy policy and market design, clean energy procurement, and verification of consumer clean energy use and impact claims.
The Manager / Director will be responsible for end-to-end project management, client relations, stakeholder outreach, team oversight, execution of deliverables, and industry-specific research.
This role demands a combination of strong leadership, subject matter expertise, and practical experience in energy markets and sustainability claims.
The candidate's qualifications and experience will determine the level of the position.
The Senior Manager or Program Director position is based in CRS’s San Francisco office, although we are open to remote work arrangements for highly qualified candidates.
Currently CRS maintains a hybrid work schedule, but that could change based on the needs of the organization and other factors.
This is a full-time, exempt position.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Senior Manager or Program Director will be working with and reporting to the Head of Clean Energy Programs to support CRS’ Expert Assistance Program, housed within the Policy and Market Development team.
Additional responsibilities may include contributions to other CRS programs including Domestic Policy, the Green-e® Programs and the Clean Energy Accounting Project (CEAP).
This position requires deep subject matter expertise and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a firm focus on priorities, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
The role will additionally require exemplary research, writing, outreach and communication skills.
Key responsibilities include :
- Advisory Services : Provide expert assistance to utilities, corporate renewable energy buyers, grid operators, and policymakers on renewable energy market development, regulatory design, and sustainability criteria.
- Project Management : Complete advisory services engagements on time and within budget.
- People Management : Managing teams, including potential direct reports.
- Technical Research & Stakeholder Outreach : Conduct in-depth technical research and maintain targeted outreach with stakeholders to inform policy and market recommendations.
- Policy & Market Analysis : Assess and provide insights on renewable energy (RE) policy design, including the evolution of voluntary markets and RE access for underserved sectors.
- Develop Written Materials : Write white papers, reports, policy briefs, and background materials to support CRS's objectives in energy markets and policy.
- Presentation & Public Speaking : Develop and deliver presentations at industry conferences, workshops, and webinars on renewable energy, market trends, and sustainability.
- International & Domestic Representation : Represent CRS in international collaborations, policy discussions, and meetings with external stakeholders (clients, governments, corporations, and NGOs).
- Verification & Impact Assessment : Support clean energy procurement and GHG accounting; assist with verification procedures for energy sales and use claims.
- Innovation & Product Design : Contribute to the development of innovative clean electricity products and credible market claims.
- Sustainability Strategy Development : Assist corporations and institutions in developing renewable energy and GHG impact strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERED SKILLS :
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, including experience with renewable energy markets.
A master’s degree is a plus.
- Policy & Market Knowledge : In-depth knowledge of renewable energy policy design, energy attribute certificates (EAC), and compliance and voluntary markets.
- Technical Skills : Strong understanding of renewable energy tracking systems, GHG accounting standards (particularly Scope 2), and clean energy sales verification procedures.
- Project Management : Experience managing large projects with multiple stakeholders, including timelines, deliverables, and budgets.
- People and team management and leadership, including setting clear goals and managing teams / personnel to produce high quality results in a timely manner.
- Written & Verbal Communication : Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both experts and non-experts.
- Stakeholder Engagement : Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and the ability to build relationships with government officials, corporate leaders, and NGOs.
- International Experience : Experience with international renewable energy markets is a plus.
- Problem Solving & Innovation : Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to complex policy and market challenges in renewable energy.
- Analytical Skills : Strong analytical skills, particularly in policy impact assessment, market design, and sustainability strategies.
- Interpersonal Communication & Character : Ability to contribute positively to CRS’ organizational culture and be a person of integrity and credibility, with a commitment to CRS’ mis sion.

COMPENSATION : The Senior Manager / Program Director will be a full-time exempt position with a target salary range for this position is $90k - $160k depending on experience level.
