Position Summary : Staff Nurse I is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model.
The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Establishes an in-depth database by assessing the behavioral and physical status of a variety of pre-surgical patient populations.
- Evaluates patient's responses to care and consults with medical staff as necessary.
- Integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care.
- Identifies learning needs with patients and families and provides individualized education.
- Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Competent in all areas of peri-anesthesia : Preop, Phase 1, and Phase 2 recovery.
- Observing patients for side effects of anesthesia and monitoring vital signs.
- Collaborating with the medical team on post-operative patient care.
- Assuring patient comfort and answering questions.
- Other assigned duties that will assist with safety, quality, and efficiency.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications :
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
- Current AHA BLS / CPR and other required certifications.
- Effective communication skills that facilitate therapeutic relationships.
- Intermediate computer skills and ability to learn the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Excellent attendance and interpersonal skills.
- 5 years of experience in PACU Phase I, Phase II, and Pediatric Patients.
- Experience with precepting and orienting.
- Pediatric experience is required.
- Required BLS / ACLS / PALS Certifications When Applying.
Preferred Qualifications :
- EPIC Experience Preferred.
- Knowledgeable of ASPAN Guidelines.
