Summary of Functions

The Sr. Manager, Business Development, will have established relationships in national geotechnical and heavy civil construction markets.

The role requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills, a strong organizational focus, and the ability to lead multiple initiatives in a dynamic environment.

Core responsibilities include driving sales, leading marketing efforts, and conducting strategic analysis, coupled with exceptional negotiation skills to secure and close deals.

The Sr. Manager will demonstrate a proven track record in identifying market trends, building and managing key relationships, and applying strategic approaches to grow the business while maintaining long-term partnerships within the geotechnical and heavy civil sectors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds and strengthens market position by establishing, developing, defining, and closing business relationships within national geotechnical, environmental remediation, and heavy civil construction markets.
  • Leads comprehensive sales planning on both a territory and account basis, with a focus on long-term growth and strategic market penetration.
  • Manages key client accounts and partnerships, ensuring exceptional service and alignment with business objectives.
  • Identifies and cultivates relationships with key decision-makers, uncovers new business opportunities, recommends differentiated solutions, negotiates, and secures deals to expand market presence.
  • Consistently identifies new business opportunities with existing and potential customers to drive sustained profitable growth in geotechnical and heavy civil sectors.
  • Grows and maintains a robust opportunity funnel that aligns with financial targets and business development goals.
  • Maintains accurate CRM records, including a comprehensive sales forecast, to ensure transparency and strategic planning.
  • Plans and oversees new marketing initiatives aligned with company objectives, supporting the overall business development strategy.

Experience / Education

  • BA or BS degree and a minimum of 10 years of Business Development experience, or equivalent Business Development experience.
  • Proven Business Development experience in the Environmental Remediation, Geotechnical and Heavy Civil Construction Industry.
  • Goal-oriented, organized team player.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, and ability to express technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent organizational skills to meet goals and set priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Innate drive to succeed and take initiative.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Experience leading direct reports in business development to success.

  • Lead, manage, and be accountable (LMA) for direct reports, fostering maximum performance and dedication from all employees.
  • Utilizes all available resources to differentiate the organization, enhancing the value proposition and fostering business growth.
  • Clearly articulates and delivers the company's value proposition to clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of products and services while continuously seeking innovative solutions to better serve clients and enhance market offerings.
  • Collaborates with operations and management teams to ensure client requirements are met and project goals are achieved.
  • Researches industry trends and capitalizes on new opportunities to increase revenue and profit within national geotechnical, environmental remediation, and heavy civil markets.
  • Manages both company and client expectations to maintain strong, long-term partnerships.
  • Develops strategies to improve customer experience and build brand loyalty across markets.
  • Attends industry functions, including conferences and association events, to stay informed on trends and build industry connections.
  • Travels as necessary to execute the duties described above, both regionally and nationally, ensuring market coverage and client engagement.
  • Willing and able to travel internationally.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is important.
  • Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is also essential.
  • Sitting for extended period is common.
  • No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally may be required.
  • Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, calculator, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Good reasoning ability and decision-making is important.
  • Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.

Primarily an office / remote position with regular visits to customers across the US and potentially Canada. Occasional site visits and field project visits may be required.

The following physical activities or abilities are commonly, but not always, associated with site visits.

  • Be able to stand or walk on a project site for extended durations.
  • When on project sites or if performing some types of work activity wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hat, steel toed work boots, and high visibility safety apparel.

Work Environment

The job is primarily performed indoors in a traditional office setting and occasionally outdoors at construction sites.

The following environmental / atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position.

The actual working conditions will vary.

  • Job Site environment, including, but not limited to, machines, tools, heavy equipment, chemicals, solvents, dust and fumes.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Uneven ground.

Pay Range $144,250 $205,350 USD
