General Summary of Position
The IS Business Intelligence Data Architect assists in architectural oversight and development for MedStar Health's Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), data marts and data pipelines.
Designs and implements database and BI Solutions that enable the business to derive valuable insights. Partners with stakeholders and subject matter experts to document requirements for data marts, dashboards, and data extracts;
and translates those requirements into technical design specifications. Works with MedStar Health's EDW vendor to manage data warehouse data pipelines and optimize the EDW platform.
Participates in a range of cross-functional activities related to data governance, standardization of data and reporting, and utilization of BI reports for all areas of the business.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of database technologies, data integration, and BI tools.
- Creates and maintains accurate design documentation for new projects and existing reporting artifacts and maintains a repository of data architecture and design artifacts and procedures.
Maintains accurate documentation in the EDW metadata repository.
- Assists in the operations and maintenance of the EDW data pipelines, schedules data pipeline execution, monitors results, and remediates data pipeline errors.
- Leads multiple design / development projects with multiple stakeholder groups, delivering cohesive data solutions that meet business, technical, and data governance requirements using the EDW and MedStar Health enterprise reporting solutions.
- Establishes architectural guidelines for the data and analytics environment in areas including scalability, security, performance, data recovery, reliability, and usability, and applies those guidelines to the design and implementation of EDW, reporting, and analytics projects.
- Collaborates with MedStar Health's EDW vendor to manage data warehouse data pipelines and optimize the EDW platform
- Leads development teams in the build and validation of those data marts, dashboards, and extracts, including performance of build and validation tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Related Field of Study required and
- Master's degree preferred
Experience
- 5-7 years Experience in data integration, database design, and development required and
- 3-4 years Experience in BI reporting and analysis, with advanced skills using BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI. required and
- 1-2 years Knowledge of and experience with statistical analysis and modeling required and
- Experience with data warehousing models, designing processes for complex data structures, and using best practices in data integration required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to write complex SQL queries.
- Ability to translate ambiguous concepts into tangible ideas and to present products such as design documents, reports and other deliverables to a broad audience.
- Demonstrated ability in the use of advanced analytical and technical problem-solving skills and experience conceptualizing ideas.
- Advanced knowledge and skill in the practical use of SQL, Python, and Tableau.
- Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint.
