Dean of Students staff serve students through programs, events, resources, and services built around student support, student involvement, and student conduct.
Our services also include Student Governance Organizations. Dean of Students is one of eight departments in the Division of Student Affairs.
Purpose
Sorority and Fraternity Life within the Office of the Dean of Student’s mission is to foster responsible leadership and personal development within the sorority and fraternity community through education, coaching, and collaboration with individuals and organizations.
The shared commitment is to advance a supportive environment that strengthens a sense of belonging, and aligns members' actions with their shared values, ensuring a holistic and enriching college experience.
The Sorority and Fraternity Life staff and student team members serve as liaisons and collaborators with our 63 fraternities and sororities, six student-led governing councils, collectively representing 15% of the undergraduate population on campus.
The coordinator will serve as part of the Sorority and Fraternity Life team and provide administrative, programmatic, and leadership support for area student programs and serve as the advisor to one or more SFL governing councils.
Along with council advising, the focus of this position includes collaborating on large scale event coordination and support, risk reduction, and creation of a team of undergraduate student ambassadors.
Responsibilities
Actively participate in the planning and implementation of area programs within Sorority and Fraternity Life which may include workshop facilitation, large scale event coordination, building assessment tools to track impact, and overall program evaluation and assessment.
Actively support individual sorority and fraternity chapter presidents through coaching and mentoring including providing best practices for recruitment, new member education and risk management, interpretation of relevant university policies and procedures, and organization discipline.
Advise a governing council, Interfraternity Council, and the Affiliate Leadership Circle, their member organizations, related committees and programs, and stakeholders that represent the community.
Advise council leaders and officers on calendar planning, programming support, risk management, governing document review, leadership development, and academic support.
Assist in the coordination of recruitment and specific risk reduction efforts.
Train, supervise, and evaluate a graduate assistant and / or undergraduate student employees or interns.
Build relationships across campus to establish a new team of undergraduate student ambassadors including recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation.
Represent Sorority and Fraternity Life on Division of Student Affairs and University committees, task forces, campus orientations, resource fairs, and requested speaking engagements.
Serve as a member of the Sorority and Fraternity Life administrative team by coordinating or assisting in related administrative and programmatic functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience developing, administering, and implementing programs for college students.
Experience advising student groups, in student personnel or student services. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, administration, and external stakeholders.
Experience with prevention and risk management concepts and education. A commitment to creating an environment where belonging for all students is considered.
Professional demeanor. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including presentations, written correspondence, and reports.
Attention to detail. Membership in a nationally affiliated Greek-lettered organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in student affairs administration or related field who have prior experience with sorority and fraternity organizations on both a local and national level.
At least two years of professional experience working with student groups to provide advising, program planning, interpretation of institutional policies, and leadership development opportunities.
Specific experience with risk management and harm reduction education including hazing prevention and substance use safety.
Experience with fraternities and sororities across various council communities, specifically the Interfraternity Council.
Demonstrated strategic and innovative approaches to problem solving. Experience with classroom instruction and facilitation.
Experience supervising professional and para-professional staff. Experience building partnerships and collaborating across departments in a post-secondary institution.
Salary
$58,750 non-negotiable
Working Conditions
Work continuously in a busy, high student traffic environment with frequent interruptions.
Extensive student traffic in busy office environment.
Must be able to maintain punctual and regular attendance.
Working around and with standard office equipment.
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
Occasional evening or weekend work will be required.

Employment Eligibility :

Retirement Plan Eligibility :
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
