Job Title : Physical Education Teacher
Location : Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC), Lone Tree CO
FLSA Status : Exempt
Reports to : Athletic Director
Work Hours / Days : School calendar- Monday through Friday, Typical School day 7 : 00 am-3 : 35 pm , Professional development and work days.
Essential Functions
- Cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming
- Maintaining professionalism in conduct and communication, striving to exemplify our core virtues
- Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
- Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
- Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
- Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
- Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
- Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
- Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
- Maintain confidentiality in student records
- Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
- Performs other related duties as directed
- Deliver engaging and inclusive physical education lessons for students in grades K-12, focusing on skill development, physical fitness, and sportsmanship
- Evaluate and monitor student progress through regular assessments and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in physical education and health education
- Plan and oversee school-wide physical activities and events, such as field days, sports tournaments, and health fairs
- Manage and maintain physical education equipment and supplies, ensuring they are safe and in good condition
Required Skills / Abilities
- Bachelor's Degree / passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area
- Strong background in content areas; willingness to receive specific training
- Proficiency in various teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
- Willingness to perform other related duties as necessary
- Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education

Physical Requirements :
- Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate in physical activities for extended periods
