THE ROLE
Cambium is seeking an experienced Materials & Processes Engineer to join our resins and composites engineering team. You’ll work closely with the team to develop, codify, and document specifications for materials and processes.
You will draw on your prior experience in polymer matrix composites to provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers regarding process development and material testing.
This will be a hands-on role and you will be involved in every step of the development process. As Cambium experiences rapid growth, the responsibilities of this role are expected to evolve.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Generate and maintain materials and processes specifications, including traceability and tracking of raw materials, resin production, composite panel fabrication, etc.
Author and own material specifications in coordination with suppliers and stakeholders.
Manage material qualification programs including specifications, test plans / reports, and internal / external lab data.
Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers and technicians.
Communicate clearly and concisely key concepts, development status, performance outcomes, and lessons learned to peers, senior leadership, and investors.
Collaborate across multiple teams including world-class experts in polymer science, composites, advanced manufacturing methods, aerospace design, and defense products.
Create and contribute to the product demonstration and engineering teams in a manner consistent with Cambium’s mission and values and the growth of Cambium’s business.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Due to the nature of the work, you must have US citizenship or US permanent residency
B.S. in materials science, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related subject
5+ years of experience as an M&P Engineer
10+ years of composites / aerospace industry experience
Detailed knowledge of and experience with composite layup, vacuum bag, and curing procedures
Basic understanding of resin characterization (rheometry, DSC, DMA, TGA)
Deep knowledge of and experience with composite testing in accordance with CMH-17 methods and ASTM Volume 15.03
You must have a strong desire to mentor other engineers and be willing to work in a hands-on engineering role
Ability to complete tasks on time with little supervision
Strong communication and collaboration skills
