Position Overview

Reporting to the KNIPEX Tools LP (KTLP) 2nd Shift Warehouse Supervisor, the Lead Material Handler is primarily responsible for the timely physical and electronic receiving, put away, and processing of all KTLP inbound shipments to the Buffalo Grove Distribution Center.

This position is responsible for demonstrating safety and operational expertise within a quality and productivity driven environment.

In addition to ensuring the daily on-time receiving of all inbound shipments, this position will assist with other distribution warehousing functions (replenishments, stock put-away, supporting production, picking operation and inventory control), along with assisting other functional areas of the business (marketing, customer service, etc.

Position Responsibilities

Demonstrates proper and safe use of all material handling equipment, including fork-lifts, to physically move inventory.

Adheres to all KTLP safety procedures and company policies.

Ensures the completion of daily fork-lift inspection checklists at the start of work shift. Denotes any nonconformance of equipment and or chemical spills (electrolyte battery acid, hydraulic fluid, oil, etc.

on checklist with verbal communication to management.

  • Ensures end of shift charging and equipment parking in designated lanes.
  • Evaluates the daily production delivery orders with the Warehouse Supervisor and works with the other warehouse & production material handlers to deliver timely and accurately to the production cells.
  • Evaluates the daily replenishments with the Warehouse Supervisor and works with the other warehouse material handlers to complete timely and accurately.
  • Physically verifies accuracy of put-away, replenishments and production orders. Utilizing sit-down fork-lifts, Walkie pallet riders, and or manual pallet jacks / dollies, and wheeled carts, loads domestic and international parcels, containers, and LTL shipments that arrive daily into the distribution center.
  • Ensures accurate and timely receipt of all inbound shipments.
  • Ensures timely processing of customer returns.
  • Helps facilitate and execute our daily cycle counting program.
  • Participates in assigned 5S housekeeping tasks and is accountable for organization and cleanliness of the warehouse, ensuring that the warehouse team is actively engaged.
  • Assists the Warehouse Manager and Warehouse Supervisor in training, coaching, process development, and KPI monitoring and performance metrics tracking of warehouse team.
  • Trains new warehouse team members on work processes and work instructions.
  • Assists other team members to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Supports management team in maintaining current standards and implementation of new initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

Position Requirements

Knowledge

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of general warehousing experience, preferably in a pick and pack shipping environment, required.
  • 2+ years of lead or supervisory experience in a warehouse environment preferred.
  • Previous experience with SAP or another WMS system, utilizing RF equipment desired.
  • Solid, basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication) along with a good attention to detail.
  • Previous fork-lift operator certification required (sit-down, stand-up reach, Walkie-rider, order picker).
  • Familiarity with general warehouse safety measures.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Capable of working in a fast-paced warehouse and distribution environment. Some heavy lifting may be required, up to 40 lbs.

  • Capable of standing on a concrete floor or similar surface or sitting for several hours a day.
  • Able to work in normal seasonal warehousing temperatures (cold in the winter, hot in the summer).
  • Position requires frequent walking, stooping, bending, and reaching required. Ability to push, pull, grasp, and fine manipulation of equipment using hands is ongoing throughout the work hours.
  • Regular, reliable and predictable onsite attendance necessary for adequate scheduling and work coverage.
