Elementary Physical Education Teacher

Position Details

JOB SUMMARY : The Elementary Physical Education Teacher will create a flexible elementary grade physical education program favorable to learning and personal growth while establishing effective rapport with students, motivating students to develop the skills, attitude, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual, or team sports to students, using district-approved curriculum
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state law and the administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
• Utilize knowledge of how students learn and develop as to provide opportunities that support their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development
• Demonstrate individual and group behavior that creates a safe and productive learning environment while promoting student self-management, self-motivation, and social skills through participation in physical activities
• Develop lesson plans and instructional material to provide individualized and small group instruction
• Communicate regularly with parents outside of the normal classroom hours by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
• Evaluate student academic growth and prepare progress reports
• Identify student needs and make appropriate referrals and develop strategies for individual education plans
• Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive display interest centers and exhibits of student work

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

• Highly qualified to teach elementary school students
• Competency in a variety of movement skills
• Understand the principles and benefits of a healthy, physically active lifestyle
• Well-versed in best practice instruction methods
• Expertise in differentiated learning
• Exceptional passion for teaching and learning
• High aptitude for forming positive relationships with colleagues, students, and parents
• Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a multidisciplinary team of professionals focused on student achievement
• Flexibility in schedule and teaching methods
• Highest level of integrity and professionalism both in and out of the classroom
• Ability to pass a background check with no criminal history

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS :

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate
• Physical education endorsement (MX, MB, or MC)
