Chief Engineer Job Description
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the Engine Department and its staff and ensures the safe and efficient operation of the ship's plant and machinery.
He is also designated as the Ship’s Safety Officer and ensures that all company, international, and port regulations pertaining to safety are fully complied with.
Key responsibilities include :
- Compliance with relevant environmental pollution prevention legislation.
- Ensuring that the responsible Engineer Officers are familiar with emergency procedures and capable of operating all safety equipment and appliances.
- Training the Second Engineer and other engineers for their elevation to higher ranks.
Our ideal candidate will have :
- A minimum of 18 months experience as a Chief Engineer on a containership of above 15000 BHP and MAN B&W Engines.
- A proven track record of competency and safety.
