Health Educator 3
Job Description
Come join our team as a PRN Health Educator 3 to support the Inova Healthy Plate Club, a program that helps children and their families learn about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.
By teaching kids about healthy nutrition through hands-on cooking lessons, creative taste tests and fun activities, the Inova Healthy Plate Club aims to decrease obesity rates among low-income children grades K-8 in Fairfax and Loudoun counties and the City of Alexandria .
The Health Educator 3 will lead in-person, after-school classes at locations including schools and community centers. The Health Educator must be available at least two days a week between the hours of 1pm and 6pm.
The Health Educator 3 may also teach school-day classes, as well as evening virtual classes than can be done from home.
The role is approximately 10 - 15 hours a week when classes are in session, with the potential to increase hours as the program grows.
Candidates should be passionate about working with kids, and educating them about health, cooking and nutrition. The ideal candidate will have experience educating kids and / or providing health education in a group setting.
Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains knowledge of specified field and identifies national trends as they apply to the population.
- Maintains teaching skills through classes, conferences or other learning opportunities.
- Demonstrates understanding of and ability to review class rosters and appropriately plan activities for class participants.
- Ensures accurate completion of program evaluations by class participants.
- Gathers and communicates participant and site contact feedback to the program manager.
- Communicates participant and site occurrences to the program manager within 24 hours. If incidents involve harm to participants, takes appropriate action and completes incident reports / communicates immediately to the program manager and / or director.
- Utilizes education materials and audio / visual learning aids to enhance program effectiveness.
- Completes annual program and system requirements within the specified timeframe.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.

3 years of experience with health education programs
Education
High School diploma or equivalent
