Summary : LJA NTX Public Infrastructure Team has an opening for a Senior Project Engineer. In this position you will be involved in hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses supporting Land Development, Municipal, and Transportation projects.
Specific project tasks will include performing and / or instructing staff on drainage impact analyses for master planned developments, roadway drainage analysis and design, stormwater masterplan analyses, Capital Improvement Program alternatives analyses, FEMA Letters of Map Change Requests, flood damage protection design, and dam breach analyses.
Aspects of the position include technical analysis and design with various client correspondence, team and mentoring leadership, budgeting, and planning.
The selected candidate will work from our Fort Worth, Dallas, or McKinney office.
General Responsibilities :
- Sr. Project Engineer will be responsible for providing technical analysis of large watershed engineering projects or a number of smaller projects with many complex drainage features.
- Provide technical support with the help of a team to produce hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, reports, and design plans with knowledge of municipal and federal requirements.
- Use standard and advanced modeling techniques, theory, and practices in hydrology and hydraulics related disciplines.
- Responsible for following the Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes in producing project deliverables.
- Project Engineer will interact with the Client (internal and external) and must have good communication skills.
- Experienced in the development of construction cost estimates, design plans, and specifications.
- Manage a small staff of Project Engineers and Design Engineers.
- Mentor / Train staff in project execution and processes
Required Education :
- Bachelor of Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas
Additional Education / Certifications :
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) a plus
- Master’s Degree in Water Resources or related field a plus.
- Certification as a CPESC a plus
Required Experience :
- 10+ years’ experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, detention design, storm drainage design, FEMA Letters of Map Change, and Floodplain Fill Mitigation Plans.
- Expertise in commonly used hydrologic and hydraulics software such as HEC-RAS (steady, Unsteady, and / or 2D), HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, XPSWMM, ICPR4 (Stormwise), etc.
- Working knowledge of GIS and CAD.
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships
- Mentoring and training staff in project execution and processes
Additional Experience
- Previous leadership and responsibility for direct reports a plus
- Experience with CFD modeling in FLOW-3D HYDRO a plus
- AI, machine learning, and / or python programming experience a plus.

This position reports to the Water Resources Program Manager with the potential for advancement into Project Management or a Group Manager role.
