The Chief of Staff is a multifaceted position that provides strategic and programmatic oversight to a number of core functions within the Family Planning 2030 (FP2030) staff including, but not limited to : strategy execution and management;

drive operational efficiencies and results across regional hubs, foster continued team learning and collaboration through a streamlined organizational capability structure and serve as a thought partner and leader with the ED and Managing Directors to support a vibrant culture of learning, growth and diversification.

Partnering with ED and MDs also to create a vibrant FP2030 culture with a growth mindset that embraces DEI, innovation, and impact.

May lead new growth opportunities and special projects. As FP2030 has devolved into a regional hub structure and is setting up a global operation that drives results in high performing team environment, the focus will be operationalization of the Support Network (SN), engaging on strategic processes across the hubs, driving operational excellence and strategic processes across the hubs.

The Chief of Staff reports to the Executive Director, FP2030, and has a close working relationship with the Managing Director of each FP2030 Hub and with all FP2030 Directors.

The Chief of Staff supervises multiple staff members including interns as relevant and works closely with coordinators to ensure collaboration and coordination across the FP2030 team.

The Chief of Staff will oversee FP2030’s business development strategy and operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to engage major funder organizations, understand their priorities, and identify new funding opportunities.

Essential Functions

Manage the Executive Directorate and Cross Team Coordination (40%)

  • Support the flow of information in and out of the ED’s office, facilitating timely decision-making and prioritization of the ED’s time and focus.
  • Act as a thought partner and sounding board, aiding the ED in executing FP2030’s strategy and approach.
  • Supervise staff within the Executive Directorate to meet administrative needs efficiently.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Senior Manager, Strategy & Coordination on shared responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement approaches for effective cross-team and inter-organizational collaboration.
  • Plan and facilitate regular SN-wide meetings, senior leadership meetings, and other key convenings.
  • Support teams in developing meeting cadences and facilitate regular meetings for functional areas and cross-team collaborations.
  • Create and implement systems for information sharing, including regular emails, meeting notes, and SharePoint usage.
  • Lead cross-team engagement in preparation for global events, ensuring collaborative planning and staffing for the ED.

Strategy and Coordination (20%)

  • Manage the Governing Board, including correspondence, meeting planning, and engagement to maintain confidence in FP2030's work and leadership.
  • Cultivate donor confidence through regular meetings, responding to requests, and providing information.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the GB’s Committees, managing membership and developing key documents.
  • Develop a strategy for engaging FP2030 Champions and collaborate across business units to implement it effectively.

Business Development and Operations (40%)

  • Maintain relationships with key funding organizations and stay informed of changes in their funding strategies.
  • Identify and solicit relevant funding opportunities, especially through curated funder relationships.
  • Track trends in the funding landscape and analyze their implications for FP2030.
  • Lead writing and development of high-quality proposals for strategic funding opportunities.
  • Provide training to increase the quality and competitiveness of proposals among FP2030 staff.

Selection Criteria

  • Advanced degree required.
  • Ten or more years work experience in human rights, sexual health, and reproductive rights; public health, international affairs or closely related international development field.
  • Demonstrated business development acumen, including a proactive, dynamic, and strategic mindset in pursuing funding opportunities.
  • Significant international development work experience, including familiarity developing proposals for multilateral development banks, bilateral development agencies, philanthropic foundations, and / or other international donors.
  • Deep understanding of and touchpoints with the international development funder landscape, and the ability to quickly understand related technical subject matter, expertise in energy, climate, health, innovation, and related topics.
  • Experience working in or designing projects within the context of low- and middle-income countries, with a particular focus on Asia and the Pacific, Latin America, and sub-Saharan Africa preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills in English, and the ability to conceptualize and manage the process of developing proposals and related materials.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with people, internally and externally, from a wide variety of types of organizations, cultural backgrounds, and areas of expertise.
  • Experience defining and managing proposal development processes, establishing, and delivering against deadlines, and guiding teams to successfully meet deadlines and deliver quality outputs, including effectively managing peers.
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills and diplomacy.
  • Successful track record and interest in working with a team with an entrepreneurial culture.
  • Ability to work under pressure and advance multiple tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and across time zones.
  • Proficiency in Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to travel internationally (up to 20%).
  • Ability to meet regular attendance and tardiness policy.
