Elementary Assistant Teacher (Ages 6-9)
Job Description
We are seeking candidates for a full-time Elementary Assistant Teacher to support a lower elementary classroom. This position will start for the 24 / 25 school year.
The person hired for this position will work closely to support a trained Montessori teacher and classroom students (ages 6-9).
Schedule : 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, with shifts falling between 8 : 00 am and 6 : 00 pm during the school year, with adjustments or additional time as needed.
This role will start in late August and end in mid June each year. There will be an opportunity to work summer camps if desired.
The role of the Elementary Assistant Teacher is to support the students and teacher in all aspects of the elementary classroom.
Our mixed age classrooms combine students of ages 6-9, specifically for this position. Responsibilities include :
- Instruct students in specific subject areas or lessons as directed by the lead teacher
- Provide consistent support for students on all subjects, but specifically math, language and reading including follow up on specific lessons and work
- Help maintain attendance, and other written or electronic records
- Assist with arrival and dismissal of students based on the school’s current protocols - support daily drop off and pick up routines as assigned
- Supervise students during various activities and transitions during the school day, including lunch and recess times
- Assist in preparing, organizing and cleaning the classroom environment, equipment and materials
- Observe student behaviors and step in or intervene when appropriate, communicating student progress or concerns with the teacher and other faculty
- Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions for position, classroom, or level
- If the classroom is required to operate in a remote setting, fulfill the above responsibilities in a virtual, remote environment
- Attend a week long overnight camp at the end of the school year
- Other duties as required, assigned, or requested
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior professional experience working with lower elementary aged children, preferably in an educational or related setting
- Reliable, flexible and able to provide a high level of support to colleagues and students
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, and developing skills to support a diverse student population
- Effective communicator, verbal and written, with children and adults
- Able to perform duties in-person within a school environment
Additional Information
Employment to begin in September for the 24 / 25 school year. Starting pay rate will begin at $20 per hour, and can increase for candidates with relevant education and experience.
