We are seeing an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to work in collaboration with our current Bone Health APP, and other departmental physicians and providers, to deliver care to patients who have fragility fractures, need preoperative bone health optimization, or general bone health management.
With the help of inpatient colleagues, Best Practice Alerts, and consultations, the APP will help identify patients who may have osteoporosis or osteopenia.
The APP will begin the initial patient education on the inpatient unit and then provide continuity of care through a treatment plan and on-going education in the outpatient clinics.
The APP will also see consults from Orthopedic providers to help optimize bone quality before surgical intervention.
The APP must be innovative and enthusiastic about helping us continue to grow our national platform in Bone Health. The APP chosen will be open to new strategies and show a willingness to build relationship and programs across departments.
Position Responsibilities :
- Responsible for capturing any fracture patient who may have osteoporosis or osteopenia and provide initial education and a contact point.
- Follow fracture patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia in inpatient and in clinics to order any labs / imaging studies that are necessary in order to effectively manage the patient’s osteoporosis or osteopenia.
- The APP will be expected to deliver excellent care, preform and interpret diagnostic testing (X-rays, advanced imaging, labs), perform injections, and prescribe, dispense, or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
- Supervise the care delivered. Perform / order medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
Consult / collaborate with other care team members. Use judgment to apply / adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues.
Influence others to adopt best practices.
- Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for treatment record and billing purposes. Improve quality of care by performing chart reviews and participating on performance improvement committees.
- Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents. Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff.
- Establish and maintain procedures and systems to assure staff compliance with policies and standards of care. Initiate corrective action as needed.
Serve on committees to enhance patient care and operations. Assure team provides effective collaboration / communications.
May provide feedback and coaching to other team members to assure quality of specialized care. Hire, develop and manage the performance of staff.
Assist with identification and implementation of process improvement projects and service line advancements in order to improve patient outcomes and decrease complications.
Assist with implementation of methods to capture appropriate billing / coding documentation in the EMR.

Education Requirements :
A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree or DNP in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
Experience Requirements :
- 1-3 years of patient care experience gained through education, job experience, or rotations is required.
- Demonstrated experience and / or knowledge of orthopedic patient care is required.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desired Qualifications :
Experience working in an orthopedic inpatient or outpatient setting is highly desired.
Strong interest and / or experience in understanding revenue capture.
