Pharmacy Technician Coordinator Inpatient - Fulltime Variable

Summary

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Lead Pharmacy Technician supports the daily activities of the inpatient pharmacy to provide quality patient care and customer service.

A positive, patient-centered, team-oriented attitude is essential for this position, and the Lead Pharmacy Technician will develop and implement ideas to maintain a high level of teamwork and morale.

The Pharmacy Technician Coordinator will collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager and Shift Coordinators to :

  • Continually revise, and implement improvements to, the Pharmacy Technician training program
  • Evaluate Pharmacy Technician performance to identify areas of improvement, to intervene, and to educate to eliminate deficiencies
  • Review pharmacy workflow and suggest potential changes
  • Prepare the Pharmacy Technician schedule and continually make revisions, as necessary
  • Effectively and efficiently manage Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Specialists
  • Ensure the pharmacy has the tools and resources necessary to be successful

Proficient or in process of gaining proficiency in all Pharmacy Technician roles, including those of the Pharmacy Technician Specialists (Pyxis, AutoMed, Narcotics, Inventory, IV Room, , and Inspection).

Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of all computerized and automated pharmacy systems and teaches and instructs Pharmacy Technicians regarding their proper use.

Precepts new Pharmacy Technician employees and ensures timely completion of all required orientation items. Collaborates with Pharmacy manager to provide technician in-service training and other education regularly during huddles, staff meetings, and as needed per department demands.

Collaborates with Pharmacy Manager to develop, review, and implement training program for Pharmacy Technicians, to include serving as one of the primary trainers for new pharmacy technician employees with the assistance from the technician educator specialist Identifies a trainees needs and provides feedback to pharmacy technician trainees and / or students as well as pharmacy management regarding training progression and areas for improvement.

Develops and monitors reports and audits to determine opportunities of improvement for Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Technician Specialists, and pharmacy operations and provides education, changes, and new initiatives, where necessary, to resolve any identified deficiencies.

Develops and maintains in collaboration with Technician Specialists and Pharmacy Manager of online pharmacy technician mandatory annual requirements and ensuring timely completion by all technicians.

Provides routine feedback to Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Specialists regarding attendance; punctuality;

professionalism and job performance, including areas of strength and areas of improvement. Prints, reviews, and appropriately files required reports on a regular basis.

Prepares the Pharmacy Technician schedule and continually makes revisions, as necessary, with minimal supervision from the Pharmacy Manager.

Ensures the pharmacy has the tools and resources necessary to be successful, including medications, supplies, etc. Evaluates, develops, and implements ideas that foster teamwork and a positive attitude in the inpatient pharmacy.

Oversees cleanliness in the inpatient pharmacy and implements and revises a regimen for cleaning all areas of the pharmacy.

Assists in daily duties of technicians, to include reallocation of staff to account for changes in workload or shortages and fill in, when necessary, to ensure all work is completed in a timely manner.

At the discretion of pharmacy management, routinely staffs all shifts to maintain competency in all required tasks and to evaluate for adequate coverage of assigned tasks.

Completes timely annual evaluations for pharmacy technicians. Performs related duties as assigned by pharmacy management.

Flexibility in staffing based on operational needs and performs workflow evaluations for process improvements on all shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS :

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum require ments necessary to perform the essential functions of this job :

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING :

Required to be registered as a pharmacy technician with the NCBOP and to maintain certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT).

Associates degree in health care related field required within 18 months of acquiring position, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE :

One year of experience as an inpatient pharmacy technician within the Health System required. Level II or Specialty Pharmacy Technician experience required.

Previous supervisory / leadership experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must display honesty, integrity, dependability, and initiative. Effective interpersonal skills to promote a positive work environment and interactions with co-workers and customers.

Good written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of Health System computer software. Must be able to analyze, interpret, and apply data to identify and solve operations deficits.

Ability to think critically, prioritize tasks, organize staff members, and employ effective conflict resolution strategies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Visual acuity to read invoices, requisitions, emails, medication labels, paperwork, etc. Hearing and speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers, both in-person and via telephone.

Able to move through pharmacy and facility to assess and manage operations. Must have manual dexterity to operate computer, printer, copier, fax machine, etc.

Able to perform repetitive motions, including bending, reaching high places, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting a minimum of 30 pounds for processing shipments, and climbing 2 flights of stairs.

Extended periods (5 hours) of sitting, standing, and walking required.
