Post Doctoral Fellow - AI / Machine Learning Data Scientist
What You Will Do
Amgen's Transformative Digital Capabilities (TDC) organization is a global process development function that develops and deploys state-of-the-art advanced computational technologies in :
- data capture, integration, and management,
- empirical and first principles modeling towards improved process understanding and robustness,
- monitoring, prediction, and optimization of manufacturing.
As a Post Doctoral Fellow within TDC, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and deploying machine learning models for biopharmaceutical processes, such as upstream biologics, where having a fundamental understanding of process engineering would be preferred.
You will be responsible for the selection of the underlying technologies and infrastructure. Finally, you will enable data flow from our centralized data lake to computational models.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering as well as expertise in data science to tackle challenging cross-functional projects including machine learning, machine learning and first principles hybrid model development, data analysis, and visualization.
The candidate will be part of cross-functional project teams with frequent interactions with Amgen's SMEs and stakeholders as well as document and communicate the underlying technical basis of the models for the benefit of and use by engineers and scientists.

Basic Qualifications
PhD at time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in an engineering or science field completed by Dec 2024
- Track record of leading data science and machine learning projects
- 4+ years of coding experience in Python
- Engineering background with strong ML skills
- Experience in AI and ML algorithms
- Experience working with experimental data sets, data mining, and machine learning tools such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
- Understanding of biopharmaceutical processes and related unit operations
- Experience using Git for version control
- Familiarity with DevOps and software best practices (i.e., version control, continuous integration, test-driven development)
- Experience in Databricks, Spotfire
- Experience in cloud computing and storage systems such as AWS
- Independent, self-motivated, organized, able to multitask in time-sensitive environments, and skilled in communication, facilitation, and collaboration
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
