Summary :
The Paramedic is a certified and / or licensed paramedic andis part of the hospital’s Emergency Department patient care team.
The ED Paramedic collaboratively works in a complementary andassistive role with nursing. Under the direct clinical supervisionof the licensed physician present in the same area or adjacentarea, the paramedic provides assistance and performs procedures,and is authorized to provide advanced life support, administermedications and perform a patient evaluation of signs and symptomsbased on their field skill sets.
The ED Paramedic assists thenursing staff in providing patient care in accordance withtraining, competence and skill. He / she is knowledgeable of andfollows all hospital policies and procedures.
Consistently assiststhe patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized,adequately stocked and safe patient environment.
Responsibilities :
- Completely operates patient monitoringequipment, records, rhythm strips, runs 12 lead EKGs, biomarkersand glucometer readings under the direction of the licensedphysician
- Performs phlebotomy, collectslaboratory specimens as ordered and inserts saline lock, Foleycatheter and nasal gastric tubes under the direction of thelicensed physician
- Assist in patient care,obtains and documents vital signs, provides patient hygiene,maintains clear and respectful communications with patients,families and the healthcare team
- Maintains aclean and safe environment, and manages all assigned supplies andequipment
- Demonstrates proficiency in settingup and performing procedures asdelegated
- Transports patients to radiology andnursing units (except ICU) utilizing appropriate transport andmonitoring equipment
- It is the responsibilityof the Paramedic to comply with the Hospital’s defined jobdescription and competencies
- Performs otherduties as assigned

High School Diploma orequivalent
Licenses,Registrations, or Certifications
- DL in state ofemployment
- EMT P License in state ofemployment
