At Houston Methodist the CT Technologist Iposition is responsible for a variety of routine diagnosticcomputed tomography (CT) procedures to include common and specialCT exams of moderate complexity with progression towards exams ofhigher complexity.

This position provides direct assistance tophysicians with all diagnostic and special CT procedures. The CTTechnologist I position delivers exceptional patient care andadheres to radiation standards and guidelines established bygoverning agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customerservice.

This position is a member of the direct patient careteam.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Collaborates with all members of the patientcare team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patientcare information and data in a comprehensivemanner.

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performsdiagnostic radiology procedures to include common and special CTexams. CT exams use xray images and computer processing to generatepictures of tissue densities through the patientsbody.
  • Proactively assessesidentifies and responds to the needs of the patient for adjustmentor intervention to optimize patient care image quality and patientexperience.

This includes : positioning physiology procedurepreparation and technical factors. Modifies technical factors toachieve desired imaging results and recognizes complications andlimitations associated with certain procedures.

  • Provides directassistance to physicians during diagnostic or special proceduresincluding assisting with sterile technique.
  • Provides accurateexplanations and instructions to patients and family members at anappropriate level utilizing verbal and nonverbal skills terminologyandlanguage.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Followssafety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.Uses ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to protect patientsstaff and general public and follows radiation safety standards.

Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures regularlypractices aseptic techniques and ensures compliance with radiationsafety and infection control procedures.

Complies with job roledepartment and hospital safety standards practices andpolicies.

Reports nearmisses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patientsafety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends.

Contributes to identification of corrective actions and improvementactivities and contributes to meeting department and hospitaltargets for quality andsafety.

Performs dailyimaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imagingequipment is in safe working order prior to use.

Reports anymalfunctions to management and regularly practices preventivemaintenance procedures; calls for service ifneeded.

Utilizes criticalthinking skills to observe and proactively address patientreactions (i.e. contrast media and medications) or potentialoutcomes and obtains assistance asappropriate.

  • Participates indepartment projects or shared governance activities. Assumesresponsibility for growth and development by participating ininservices programs and continuingeducation.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

  • CMRT CertifiedMedical Radiologic Technologist State Licensure OR
  • CMRTTemp CertifiedMedical Radiologic Technologist Temporary State Licensure AND
  • BLS Basic Life Support(AHA) AND
  • If less than 1year CT experience : American Registry of Radiologic Technologist inRadiography (ARRT (R)) or Radiation Therapy (ARRT (T)) or NuclearMedicine (ARRT (N)) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification(CNMT)) and American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in CT(ARRT (CT)) within 6 months OR
  • If 1 or more years CTexperience : American Registry of Radiologic Technologist inRadiography (ARRT (R)) or Radiation Therapy (ARRT (T)) or NuclearMedicine (ARRT (N)) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification(CNMT) and American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in CT (ARRT(CT)) by the end of the month following 12 months of hire
