OVERVIEW
Bridge Boston Charter School is a tuition-free, K1-8 public school serving 335 students in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and the surrounding community many of whom have experienced social, emotional, and developmental barriers to learning.
Bridge Boston’s robust social-emotional program is designed with an eye to supporting students who have experienced trauma in their homes and communities.

THE POSITION
Reporting to the Director of Professional Learning, the Science Resident Teacher
Specifically, they will be responsible for :
- Instructional Responsibilities
- Develop and implement curriculum and daily lesson plans for 5th grade
- Support instruction in 6th-8th grade science, with the goal of taking over 6th grade instruction by end-of-year
- Deliver dynamic and creative instruction
- Administer frequent assessments and addressing findings
- Meet and communicate with parents / guardians
- Collaborate with other teachers and the principal
- Weekly coaching and feedback sessions with Science Department Chair
- Classroom Culture & Management
- Maintaining high standards of student behavior needed to achieve optimal learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Adhering to & promoting Bridge Boston’s Positive Behavior Intervention System and social / emotional learning policies
- Monitoring lunch, recess, and hallway transitions for one grade level, as assigned by supervisor
- Professional Development
- Participating in grade level, division level, and school-wide professional development as directed by school administration
- Maintaining professional competence through participation in additional in-service activities and other learning opportunities and / or self-selected professional growth activities
- Additional Responsibilities
- Communicating with Lead teachers, parents, administration, colleagues in a timely, consistent manner
- Partnering with the Student Support and School Culture Teams, Special Education, and English Language Learning departments to leverage supports that will advance the individual needs of students
- Actively participating in a professional learning community
- Submitting behavior and academic reports in a timely manner
- Adhering to Bridge Boston schoolwide protocols, policies, and regulations
- Participating in required family engagement activities such as parent-teacher conferences, parent-admin dinners, school music concerts, and student awards programs
- Performing other related duties as assigned by Division / Department Leader, including arrival and dismissal responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS
- BA or BS required
- 1+ years of cumulative experience working with middle school age students from diverse backgrounds
- Strong academic background in science and / or technology and engineering
- Ability to communicate and break down complex scientific concepts in the middle school Science curriculum
- Willingness to hold students accountable for meeting high expectations in academics and behavior
- Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity; belief in the value of diversity
- Have a self-starter and team player attitude working to address and resolve issues with a team focus
- Effective communication skills with families, staff, and students
- Adaptive, flexible, and resourceful problem solver
- Customer-service orientation
- Strong work ethic and sense of urgency
- Detail-oriented and organized
