Responsibilities

Job Purpose

  • The primary function of the role will be to research, analyze, and synthesize the external market conditions impacting Pattern's new and core business interests in Western North America;
  • clearly and regularly communicate internally and cross-functionally on the impacts and repercussions of changes to those market conditions;

and to create actionable outputs, reports, and recommendations on key commercial decision-making to move the company toward a position of success.

Key Accountabilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and communicate market dynamics to cross-functional Pattern colleagues. Create and lead development strategies for Pattern Energy’s new and core markets in clean energy, transmission, green fuels and storage;
  • identify, evaluate and analyze potential changes in the competitive landscape which may enhance or detract from the business case for core North American strategies
  • Provide insight on policy positions that Pattern's industry allies and internal political and regulatory affairs team should be taking to position Pattern favorably within changing market conditions.
  • Work with data and dashboarding tools to evaluate the value of Pattern’s existing and future development assets and communicate that value to Pattern colleagues.
  • Synthesize inputs from Fundamentals, Policy and Market Intelligence teams to identify new development opportunities for Pattern in North Amerca

Qualifications

Experience / Qualifications / Education Required

Education / Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience, including commercial strategy; renewable energy project and portfolio development, with a preference for experience in greenfield development and new market entry;
  • preference for experience with energy policy, energy political organizing, deal origination, and / or energy asset management;
  • Experience within CAISO and WECC required;
  • Experience with transmission development as well as generation would be preferred;
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, law, social science and / or economics required.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • World class strategic and analytical thinking with an excellent ability to put complex ideas into clear frameworks, and to use data to drive strategic objectives and priorities;
  • Intimate knowledge of the energy, and if possible renewable energy market in the U.S. and Canada, and the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and emerging market trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy;
  • Ability to identify strategic topics and their implications and develop strategic insights from quantitative and qualitative data;
  • Ability to create buy in and build enthusiasm around strategies / recommendations; high level of influencing / diplomacy skills to balance competing interests and manage multiple stakeholders with complex objectives;
  • Ability to foresee market needs before they materialize and then provide actionable intelligence to Pattern Development Team and Leadership Team;
  • Deep understanding of mainstream and emerging renewable energy technologies (wind, solar, storage, transmission, grid-edge, long-duration, hydrogen, etc);
  • Existing professional relationships with local utility representatives, developers, trade associations, media sources, government representatives and others;
  • Ability to write and orally present clearly, concisely, and compellingly to a range of audiences, including technical, laymen, media and corporate management;
  • Comfort with providing both in-depth analysis and conclusions by deliberately synthesizing economic, commercial, political and legal information in fast-paced situations;
  • Superior communication skills (verbal, prose, visual); concise, clear and convincing public speaking skills for a range of diverse audiences including technical, layperson, political, and corporate management;
  • graphic design and data visualization preferred;
  • Commercial mindset, strong prioritization, communication and organizational skills;
  • Appetite to learn and comfortable with uncertainty; interest in technology and proven ability to go deep in complex topics / verticals;
  • Ability to thrive in an evolving and dynamic environment;
  • Passion for driving a transition to clean energy.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $118,000 - $160,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education.

In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
