Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, responsible for all aspects of patient meal ordering including receiving patient calls, inputting menu selections into department software, ensuring compliance to dietary restrictions and attention to patient specific needs and concerns.

Generate reports related to patient meal service. Assemble and coordinate distribution of patient nourishment and tube feedings.

Expedite delivery of supplies to other departments. Assist with patient meal service functions. Knowledge and application of safe food handling practices.

Communicate effectively. Provide excellent patient and family centered care and service.

Essential Functions

  • Manage large amounts of incoming patient calls in a timely manner.
  • Promptly and accurately enter patient meal orders into department software.
  • Ensure compliance to dietary restrictions including modified diets, allergies, isolation requirements, and safety tray requirements.
  • Input patient preferences, clinical staff notes, and other pertinent information into patient records.
  • Ensure patient satisfaction by responding appropriately and timely to patient requests and concerns.
  • Print tray tickets and prepare patient menus for distribution.
  • Generate reports including but not limited to diet census, isolation trays, missed meal reports, and production reports.
  • Assemble and coordinate distribution of patient nourishments and tube feedings.
  • Receive requisitions and expedite delivery of department supplies and floor stock to other departments.
  • Assist with patient meal service functions.
  • Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes equipment and work area according to established standards for safety and sanitation.

Collects and disposes of trash in work area.

Applies principles of safe food handling during storage, assembly, production, and service. Records food and equipment temperatures as required.

Properly labels and dates products. Monitors expiration dates and disposes of outdated product.

  • Communicate effectively within department and with all hospital departments, patients, and staff.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to function in a physically demanding fast paced environment for extended periods of time.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper lifting techniques and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper use and storage of potentially hazardous cleaning products.
  • Strong phone etiquette skills and customer service focus
  • Proficient in computer software and strong technical skills
  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task and stay focused in a busy environment.

Preferred

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Food service experience
  • Call center experience.
