Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO )

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to join our team supporting the Federal Judiciary in its cybersecurity efforts.

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive information security programs to protect the Federal Judiciary's critical data and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain System Security Plans (SSPs) for the Federal Judiciary's information systems
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and vulnerability scans to identify potential security threats and vulnerabilities
  • Implement and manage security controls in accordance with federal guidelines and best practices
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure security measures are integrated into all aspects of system development and operations
  • Monitor security systems and respond to security incidents in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Conduct security awareness training for Federal Judiciary staff
  • Manage the process for granting, modifying, and revoking system access
  • Coordinate with external auditors and assessors during security audits and assessments
  • Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and best practices
  • Provide regular security status reports to management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in information security, with at least 3 years in a senior security role
  • In-depth knowledge of information security principles, best practices, and relevant federal regulations (e.g., FISMA, NIST guidelines)
  • Experience with developing and maintaining System Security Plans (SSPs)
  • Proficiency in various security tools and technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS / IPS, SIEM)
  • Familiarity with cloud security concepts and practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Required Certifications

  • CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or equivalent
  • Additional certifications such as CISM, CEH, or GIAC Security Expert are a plus
