Summary of the Role

We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant with 3-5 years of public accounting experience to work on-site in our Richmond office.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax preparation and assurance, excellent client service skills, and the ability to independently manage multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation, Review and Planning :

Prepare and review individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns prepared by staff accountants.

Provide tax planning strategies to clients to minimize tax liabilities and advise on tax implications of business decisions.

Assurance Services :

Plan and perform audits, reviews, and compilation engagements.

Assess and evaluate internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Identify and communicate audit findings and recommendations for improvements.

Collaborate with clients to gather necessary financial data and documents.

Prepare detailed audit reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.

Client Management :

Develop and maintain strong client relationships.

Serve as a primary point of contact for client inquiries and concerns.

Communicate proactively, clearly and effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide appropriate solutions.

Understands engagement / project profitability and effectively communicates status / issues

Team Leadership and Development :

Mentor, train, evaluate and provide feedback to staff accountants and interns.

Delegate tasks effectively and ensure the completion of high-quality work.

Provide regular feedback and conduct performance evaluations.

Operational and Technical Excellence :

Identify, research and resolve technical issues in audit and tax engagements.

Manage multiple projects and deadlines independently and efficiently.

Act as champion in either technology area and / or specialized technical knowledge area.

Identify and resolve issues that may impact engagement quality or efficiency.

Share best practices and time-saving techniques with team members.

Qualifications

Experience

At least 3-5 years of current experience in public accounting required, focusing on tax preparation and planning.

Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Proficiency in Ultra Tax, QuickBooks (desktop and online), Excel, AdvanceFlow, and GoFileRoom.

Skills and Abilities

Proactive, clear and effective communication (both written and oral).

Ability to adapt to new technology and stay current with changes.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in order to meet multiple deadlines.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple projects.

Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrate flexibility, teamwork and a positive attitude.
