OVERVIEW : The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of donors and prospects, primarily consisting of individuals with major gift ($5,000+) capacity. We invest heavily in relationships to ensure that : our current donors feel appreciated and motivated to maintain or increase their support; and new connections to our mission feel inspired to give.

POSITION CLASSIFICATION :

  • FLSA Exemption Status : Non-exempt
  • Work Schedule : 12 month, Full-Time (20-24 hrs / wk)
  • Location : In-Office (Edina)
  • Basis of Pay : Hourly
  • Pay Range : $37 - $42 / hr, DOQ
  • Department : Development

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES :

Relationship Management

  • Build and manage a portfolio of 125+ donors with major gift capacity, overseeing all phases of the solicitation process.
  • Identify and qualify new, high capacity prospects, adding 50+ prospective major donors to the portfolio annually
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with board members, staff, Youth Frontiers leadership, and external partners to enlist active support for YF's fundraising efforts.
  • Develop highly personalized donor communications including proposals, stewardship reports, and general program updates.
  • Serve as a visible spokesperson and advocate for Youth Frontiers’ mission and programs in the community and a conduit to build new relationships.
  • Travel as needed to meet with existing and prospective donors in support of program objectives.

    • Development Strategy & Operations

  • Participate in the development of YF’s next long-term fundraising campaign, including research, planning, prospect and pipeline development, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Utilize wealth screening tools, other research, and networks of existing donors to identify prospective major donors.
  • As a member of the development team, actively participate in strategy sessions and help inform colleagues (including the CEO) of major gift strategies, with a special focus on long-term and planned giving efforts.
  • Identify planned giving prospects and partner with the Director of Development to secure new planned gift intentions and steward existing planned giving donors.

    • Donor Database Population & Reporting

  • Support ongoing improvements to the systems and processes that operationalize and organize our development efforts.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly revenue projections and forecasting for the portfolio.
  • Record all interactions with donors and prospects within the donor database.
  • Manage personal targets and KPIs.
  • Track personal progress towards weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals including outreach and donor meetings.
  • Assist with donor events and other activities upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development, VP of External Relations, or CEO.

    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 3-4 years experience in individual and / or institutional fundraising, or commensurate experience in a relationship management capacity.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with CRM databases, preferably Salesforce.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Mac Experience with basic software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines and work as part of a team.
  • In addition to these general skills, the position requires the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle : (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.

    • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Comfort with reaching out to prospects via email and phone, able to secure face-to-face meetings with donor prospects, and excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Goal and results-driven with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Accountable, with an attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and anticipate the needs of donors, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Able to overcome obstacles, working independently and as part of a team.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence.
