Urgent Staffing Need : Bilingual Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant

Hill Country Mission for Health is a 501c3 charitable primary care facility.  We are urgently seeking a bilingual (Spanish-speaking) Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician's Assistant (PA) to provide primary healthcare services to our low-income, uninsured patients. Working hours are from 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday.

ROLE :   As the Provider you will provide primary health care to eligible underserved adults who are patients of Hill Country Mission for Health (HCMH). You will be responsible for managing health problems and coordinating healthcare in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care (assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of patient status).  The scope of service depends upon the provider’s training, expertise, and specialty.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Provide primary health care assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of common chronic diseases and acute, non-emergency illness or injury by providing consultations and treatment, or referral to a specialist.
  • Prescribe appropriate diagnostic testing, medication, and other treatments within the constraints of limited financial resources. Utilize in-house and out-sourced lab testing, low cost generic drugs, prescription assistance programs, and less expensive imaging studies, when feasible. If expensive testing or treatment is medically necessary, consult with and obtain prior authorization from the Executive Director.
  • Refer patients who need emergency treatment to the local ER. Refer patients who need consultations beyond the scope of practice of HCMH to specialists who collaborate with the Clinic. Make referrals to other specialists in the Clinic referral network, if medically necessary. Limit surgical referrals to emergency or potentially life threatening conditions. Refer patients who need mental health services to MHMR, The Ecumenical Center, or Abiding Hope Christian Counseling. Refer patients who need GYN, OB, and STD services to other charitable or area clinics who collaborate with HCMH that provide these services.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Support the in-house Risk Buster Program and be familiar with the content.
  • Consult the Clinic’s Medical Director as needed on medical management.
  • The Medical Director reports to the Executive Director, who should also be consulted by the Provider when determining and / or establishing decisions affecting the clinic or clinic staff.
  • Facilitates staff and patient / family decision-making by providing educational tools.
  • Abide by Clinic Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Current Texas license to practice as a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.
  • Current certificate of medical liability insurance.
  • Current Provider care in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Strong computer skills; experience with electronic medical records programs.
  • Other Pertinent Responsibilities :

  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, when scheduled.
  • Provide input by suggesting changes and / or solutions to problems.
  • Undergo training / continued education (when required) to improve performance of this position.
  • Understanding Clinic hierarchy by referring to and abiding by the policies, processes, and procedures set forth by Clinic Management.
  • Assist with training new employees with responsibilities similar to this position.
  • Attend and participate in Clinic fundraisers and other functions.
  • Respecting self and others by treating all staff members with dignity, respect, and professionalism, and contributing to a team effort.
  • Understanding and adhering to boundaries, both personal and professional , specifically  including patient privacy during operating hours.
  • Providing general information to patients regarding Clinic hours of operation, operating procedures regarding the scheduling of appointments and when necessary, emergency medical treatment.
  • Other pertinent duties as required or assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Willing to accept proper training by supervisory staff, as well as constructive counseling when deemed necessary by Management and / or the Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrating honesty when clocking in and out of the time and attendance system utilized by the clinic and submitting time sheet to the ED in a timely manner as dictated by the due date for payroll processing.
  • Performing other duties as assigned and meeting deadlines necessary to assist the ED.
  • Gossiping and demeaning other employees, the use of foul language, vulgar acts or anything of the like will not be tolerated.  This includes discussing decisions made by Management regarding other staff members or other types of facility management.  Any violation of this policy will be treated with disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
