Job Description
Head Coach
Responsible to : Principal
Athletic Director
Qualifications :
- Meets coaching criteria as defined by TSSAA and / or other state interscholastic sport
governing association
Relevant coaching experience preferredStrong verbal and interpersonal skillsEssential Responsibilities :
Follows all school rules and system policiesFollows all rules and regulations regarding the sport as defined in the TSSAAhandbook
Provides technical expertise in coaching the assigned athletic activityUnderstands and follows the proper administrative line of command and refers allrequests or grievances through proper channel
Maintains professionalism on and off the fieldStrives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role modelTeaches student athletes the values of good citizenship, honesty, integrity, self-discipline, courage, loyalty and sportsmanship
Encourages community partnerships that enhance district programs and servicesWorks with the media to develop a positive relationshipWorks with the athletic director to evaluate program needsMakes preparation for any athletic event in his / her respective programPromotes the proper use and care of school propertyRegularly inspects playing surface for safety concernsAttends all mandatory programs (e.g. TSSAA required meetings, first aid / CPRtraining, etc.).
Encourages student involvement in program activities. Helps parents and studentsunderstand program objectives. Explains student responsibilities (e.g., scholastic
eligibility, parental permission, physical exams, training / performance schedules,
requirements for letters, optional insurance coverage, waiver forms, etc.)
Organizes team tryouts. Maintains the integrity of the selection processOrganizes and carries out a practice schedule. Coordinates activities with theschool calendar
Assumes responsibility for the development of off-season activities (e.g., summertraining, clinics, etc.)
Teaches precautions and procedures to help students prevent injuries. Ensures thatmedical authorization forms are on file and readily available. Promptly documents
all injuries that require attention
Participates in student recognition programsRides bus with players, when applicable, to and from games, contests and campsHelps with supervision responsibilities related to the preparation of athletic fields,and practice areas
Assigns and keeps track of athletic equipment issued to students and staff, andmaintains inventory of all new and used equipment
Ensures that students keep locker rooms and practice areas orderlyHelps arrange transportation and lodging for sanctioned activitiesObtains permission to be away when duties conflict with other assigned dutiesTakes precautions to ensure staff / student safety. Does not leave studentunsupervised
Works closely with the athletic boosters associationEstablishes a working relationship with system schools and coaches at all levelsGives Athletic Director a copy of all communications sent home with studentsGeneral Requirements :

Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the higheststandards of public education and in support of the District's Vision / Mission

Maintains ethical standards, which include professionalism and the protection ofconfidential student and staff information
