Overview

The Visual Arts Aide assists with the daily operations of the Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center under the Hampton Coliseum / Hampton Arts Department. This position supports staff, instructors, and visitors to ensure smooth programming, engaging exhibitions, and a welcoming experience for all guests.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors, answer phone inquiries, and maintain attendance logs.
  • Register class participants, collect fees, and process payments and memberships.
  • Communicate with instructors, distribute class materials, and send student reminders.
  • Assist in special projects such as gallery wall painting and classroom rearrangement.
  • Maintain exhibition and class files, including artist bios and attendance records.
  • Support collection care and artwork documentation.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assist with general administrative tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
  • Some college coursework in liberal or fine arts preferred.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

    • Additional Requirements

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to work independently with follow through on projects and assignments.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer experience required.
  • Must be available to work a combination of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
