About the Position
The Associate Director of Religious and Spiritual Life for Quaker Affairs initiates and supports Quaker-related programming on campus, and serves as the administrative liaison for The Corporation of Haverford College.
Primary Responsibilities
Initiate and support programming and activities that reflect Haverford’s Quaker heritage and character and advance its educational mission (75% of time expected) :
- Encourage and convene conversations that engage the entire community in broad, conceptual issues related to Haverford’s Quaker roots and Quaker influences today
- Provide vision, leadership, and organizational support for a wide range of Quaker-related programming on campus, including a student leadership team, the Friend in Residence program, spiritual retreats, distinguished visitors, and other programs
- Collaborate with other departments on programming and service that might be enriched by consideration of Haverford’s Quaker character, ethos, or values
- Support Quaker student groups in developing opportunities on and off campus, including internships, workshops, spiritual mentorship and pastoral care, leadership development, gatherings, speakers, and social events
- Engage students interested in Quakerism who are not directly associated with formal Quaker groups
- Facilitate communication between the Corporation and campus community members, and work to develop and implement programming that connects Corporation members and Quaker community on campus
- Liaise with Institutional Advancement to strengthen and manage the Rufus Jones Fund, supporting Quaker and Quaker-related programs on campus, and other relevant fundraising efforts initiatives
- Maintain external connections with the Religious Society of Friends by developing relationships with Quaker individuals and organizations, external Quaker Meetings, Quaker gatherings / conferences, Quaker service and leadership development opportunities, Quaker publications, and Quaker colleges, and by facilitating student access to these opportunities and resources
- Serve as the primary liaison with Haverford Friends Meeting and supports collaborative programming
- Recruit and supervise Quaker Affairs Office administrative student assistants
- Support the orientation of new employees to Haverford’s Quaker-rooted ethos and culture
Serve as the administrative liaison for the Corporation (25% of time expected) :
- Provide administrative assistance for the Corporation and its committees, which include the Corporation Advisory Committee (CAC), Corporation Standing Nominating Committee, Naming Committee, and other standing, ad-hoc or medium-term working groups as created by the CAC
- Assist with organizing the Corporation Annual Meeting
- Maintain records for the Corporation
Line of Report : The Associate Director of Religious and Spiritual Life for Quaker Affairs reports to the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life, with a dotted line to the President.
The Associate Director may supervise student leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S. degree (or equivalent experiential education)
- 3 years professional experience in some or all of the following areas : creating and running young adult programs, higher education administration, and office management
Professional Competencies
- Grounded in the faith and practice of the Religious Society of Friends, including experience with Quaker process
- Capacity to independently manage budgeting and fundraising processes
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as a creative and responsible member of a collaborative team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising administrative support staff
- Proven ability to work productively with young adults
- Relevant programming experience in an academic or not-for-profit setting
- Recent experience with and in-depth knowledge of Haverford College is desirable
