Job Description

35% - Project Management

Manages programs and research grants for the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE), led by Dr.

Ford, Principal Investigator (PI).

  • Manages the MUSC Hollings Office of COE research study submissions to the MUSC Protocol Review Committee and Institutional Review Board.
  • Manages MOVENUP, an outreach and cancer education program, and the program data collection and IRB updates.
  • Manages the meeting schedule and content of assigned COE Office programs and research grants.
  • Manages a summer cancer health equity research program at MUSC for undergraduate and high school participants. The program includes a cancer health equity course, a mentored -research experience in laboratories or offices with MUSC mentors, and cultural activities.
  • Advertises and market the program.
  • Matches mentors with students.
  • Coordinates cultural enrichment activities.
  • Organizes the course on the MUSC eLearning platform.
  • Coordinates onboarding to enrollment and stipends for the students.
  • Contacts lecturers to schedule their lectures and revise the curriculum based on their availability.
  • Manages SU2C grant between three university partners and a local FQHC supporting navigation to Lung Cancer Screening.
  • Manages the U54 grant and partnership with South Carolina State University, including organizing national virtual symposia, collaborative visits and research planning and execution.

35% - Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Conducts cancer education sessions with community members in multiple sites in South Carolina, traveling beyond Charleston County when necessary.
  • Represents the COE Office in community events, conferences, and national meetings.
  • Recommends new community partners and offers feedback to enhance community engagement.
  • Works evenings and weekends as needed, with compensatory time allocated for a total workweek of 40 hours.

20% - Participate in Funding Opportunities and Proposal Development

  • Assists with grant development for the HCC COE Office, including developing timelines for grant submission, conducting literature searches to inform grant writing, summarizing the evidence in the literature, assisting with budget development and collating grant applications.
  • Works closely with the PI to establish research partnerships to enhance the quality of the research.
  • Identifies new sources of potential funding.
  • Maintains updated lists of current funding opportunities.
  • Matches funding opportunities with investigators’ research areas of interest and parallel funding opportunities.

5% - Generate Reports

Prepares reports for the COE Office’s funded grants and programs to internal and external entities.

5% - Manage Scientific Peer-Reviewed Publications

  • In collaboration with the PI, develops and manages research manuscripts for submission to scientific peer-reviewed journals.
  • Prepares summaries of the research literature relevant to the topic and scope of each manuscript.
