Summary :
Performing receptionist and clerical coordination of the Medical / Surgical, OB, and Emergency Departments under the direction of the Shift Supervisor.
Typical Schedule :
12-hour day night shifts, every third weekend / holiday rotation
Qualifications :
CNA with current Wisconsin Certification or the ability to obtain, required.BLS certification, required.Minimum of 1 year Med / Surg or hospital experience preferred.Certificate Medical Administrative Assistant or Health Unit Coordinator preferred.Proficient keyboarding skills and computer knowledgeAbility to learn OMC computer applications.Responsibilities include :
Coordinate work activities at the Medical / Surgical Department nurse’s station.Plans proactively for unit changes based on need.
Keeps current on policies and procedures of OMC and the nursing department relevant to the HUC position.Update WITRAC Daily before 9am and when bed counts are paged.Performs clerical duties under direction of the Registered Nurse and HospitalistMaintains adequate supplies / copies in work area.
Completes HUC Task List for each assigned shift.Enter charges as needed and directed.Maintain organization of work areaMaintain medical records for patients.Transcribes physicians’ orders accurately.
Prepares charts for admissions, transfers, and discharges.Communicates EffectivelyPersonal accountability to stay up to date on all communication.
Communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team.Uses proper phone etiquette when answering and directing calls.Greets patients, visitors, ancillary staff in a professional manner presenting to Hospital Nurses station.Continually strives to meet and exceed customer service standards in all interactions with customers, which include patients, visitors, other hospital employees, and medical staff.Demonstrates a team / collaborative approach with colleagues.
Helps and supports co-workers and physicians.Helps and supports patients and their families.Attends staff meetings and mandatory education.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :
Perform essential functions of a Health Unit CoordinatorEnter daily charges.Perform essential functions as a Certified Nursing Assistant (daily weights, glucometer checks, vitals, etc.) for Med-Surg / ED / OB.Report any abnormal finding to delegated RN.Knowledgeable regarding procedures for setting up appointments for special procedures and office visits for patients as needed.Coordinates patient transfers and assists with related paperwork.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, family members, and co-workers.Effectively handle stress.Communicate clearly both orally and in writing.Maintain confidentiality per OMC policy.Ability to perform additional duties on an as needed basis.Participate in the orientation process of new staff.Seek out learning / educational opportunities to increase knowledge in job responsibilities.
