Intern - Photonics and Phononic Microsystem - R&D Undergraduate Year-Round

What Your Job Will Be Like :

We are seeking a year round electrical engineering intern to support research in advanced mechanical transduction technologies for power and data transmission and sensing.

On any given day, you may be called on to :

  • Support research staff to develop novel actuation and / or communication devices and methods
  • Perform research related to piezoelectric and magnetostrictive actuators
  • Characterize devices and systems and develop technology demonstrations
  • Analyze data and document results (in reports or journal papers)
  • Become familiar with selected novel devices and develop practical laboratory skill

Qualifications We Require :

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements :

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 / 4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.

Qualifications We Desire :

  • Completed advanced circuit design undergraduate courses with practical electrical circuit design experience
  • Experience with power electonics and switching amplifiers
  • Experience operating in a research laboratory environment with basic knowledge of laboratory safety and test equipment operation
  • Experience with basic electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators)
  • Programming knowledge required for data analysis and automated data acquisition (Matlab / Python / C)
  • Experience working with general laboratory test equipment and data acquisition systems
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently to solve challenging problems
  • Strong writing and communication skills (for reporting technical results in meetings)
