Position : Patient Care Technician
Location : Neptune, NJ
Duration : 3 months
Roles & Responsibilities :
Job Summary : The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in supporting registered professional nurses and ensuring the well-being of patients.
This position involves a range of essential job functions to facilitate patient care, including preparation, assessment, and assistance with various medical procedures.
Essential Generic Job Functions (Listed in order of importance) :
- Welcome patients, ensuring proper identification bracelets are in place.
- Prepare patients for assessment, admission, physical examination, and procedures.
- Draw intravenous or capillary blood from patients of all ages, following aseptic collection techniques, and ensure proper labeling and processing of specimens.
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKG) for patients as directed.
- Maintain and ensure the functionality and cleanliness of all necessary equipment.
- Assist in transporting patients to various departments or units upon request.
- Assist with patient preparation, including meal assistance or feeding as needed.
- Monitor and restock inventory of assigned area as directed.
- Ensure the room environment is prepared for patient admission.
- Provide direct hygiene and comfort care to patients, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed making.
- Take vital signs on admission under the direction of the RN, document results, and notify the RN promptly of any abnormalities.
- Perform and document glucose finger sticks and collect other specimens as directed.
- Obtain and document daily patient weights, observe and document patient intake and output.
- Provide a safe patient environment by responding to call lights promptly and communicating with the RN immediately for any change in the patient's condition.
- Identify and address the specific needs of the patient population served, considering factors such as age, culture, language, and sensory impairments.
Knowledge, Education, and Skills Preferred :
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant, or Patient Care Technician with successful completion of a PCT program, including Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant courses in both theoretical and clinical settings.
- At least one (1) year of PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting is strongly preferred.
Required Certification / Licensing :
Maintain current BLS / CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
Contacts : Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients, and visitors.
