The West Los Angeles (WLA) Campus Librarian is a key member of the team of librarian faculty and staff who together manage the operations of the graduate campus libraries at Pepperdine University.

The WLA Campus Librarian reports to the Associate University Librarian for Graduate Campus Libraries and is responsible for carrying out services to support learning, research, and teaching.

The librarian works closely with colleagues on the Malibu campus and with colleagues at Pepperdine graduate campus locations in Southern California.

An essential element of this position involves providing support to the expanding population of online graduate students.

In alignment with the University’s mission and strategic plan, the librarian works closely with faculty in the Graduate School of Education and Psychology and the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School and participates in the design and delivery of services and programs that promote the use of the libraries’ collections, services, and expertise.

Duties

Provides research and reference assistance and other critical services to WLA Library and online users. Responsibilities include : assisting faculty, students, and staff in locating information;

providing general research and reference assistance; and offering in-depth research and reference support in the areas of Psychology, Education, and Business.

  • Actively participates in developing, implementing and assessing pedagogic approaches that promote essential graduate-level academic literacies, including, but not limited to : knowledge seeking strategies, data curation, visualization and preservation, design thinking, and use of digital tools and techniques.
  • Responsibilities also include assisting in planning, implementing, promoting, and evaluating programs of orientation, and instruction for students, faculty, and staff at the campus libraries;

and instructing individual patrons in information-seeking research skills.

Manages the West Los Angeles Graduate Campus Library. Responsibilities include supervising library staff and student employees in daily activities at the library;

managing the WLA iLab Studio; and evaluating the performance of library staff and student employees.

Promotes library resources to faculty, students, and staff. Responsibilities include networking with faculty; creating and disseminating LibGuides;

and ensuring library resources are integrated into the activities of the WLA Graduate Campus Library in addition to online courses.

Participates in collection development activities. Responsibilities include maintaining a reference collection development and maintenance policy statement in Education, Psychology, and Business;

evaluating and recommending materials in Education, Psychology, and Business for collection development; acting as subject specialist liaison with faculty and administrators and communicating with them on a regular basis.

  • Other projects and duties as assigned, including participating in the development, writing and updating of pertinent library documents, such as procedures manuals, database guides and training materials;
  • planning and executing small exhibitions in the library; participating in long- and short-term library planning for the library;
  • engaging in research and publishing according to guidelines set forth in the Librarians Handbook; serving on Library and University committees;

participating in professional development activities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Required : Master's degree in Library Science or comparable graduate degree An appreciation for and commitment to the university’s Christian mission and a desire to contribute actively to that mission;
  • demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence; demonstrated sound judgment and emotional intelligence;

strong verbal and written communication skills; well organized, team player, highly motivated, ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Command of business and specialized bibliographic databases, reference sources and techniques for research. Experience serving in-person and online graduate student populations.

Experience using WMS or other library systems; Microsoft Office; Google Workspace; Zoom. Interest in new technologies such as podcasting studios and makerspaces.

Preferred : Second master's degree. Skill in the usage of Education and Psychology databases for research. Experience serving international student populations.

Experience in providing information literacy instruction. Experience in collection development. Interest in emerging technologies and data literacy.

Knowledge of accessibility guidelines and best practices. Experience using Springshare products such as LibGuides, LibAnswers, and LibCal;

video capture and editing software.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range : $66,560 - $70,000 per year
