Position Overview
The Department of Art & Design is in need of building a pool of adjunct instructors for various courses as they become available.
References will be checked upon scheduling interview. What will I do in this position? Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Teach coursework in the Department of Art & Design. Course subject areas include : Principles of Art (Art Appreciation)Art History Western art, pre-history to presentCeramics wheel throwing, slipcasting, handbuildingDrawing figure drawing, character designOther studio areas design, animation, illustration, sculpture, painting, printmaking

What will it take to succeed in this position? Minimum Education and Experience :
Graduate degree in studio art, art history, or a related field. M.F.A. and / or significant industry experience preferred for studio teaching.
Prior teaching experience a plus.
Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern;
and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- For studio teaching, experience in studio processes and techniques as well as an active studio practice
- Knowledge of historic and modern artists and movements
- Well-versed in contemporary art history and practice
- Excellent verbal skills
- Skilled in critiquing art both technically and conceptually, able to challenge and encourage students to become better artists through critique and conversation
- Confident in developing creative class projects and working independently as an instructor.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills
- Ability to type efficiently and accurately use the computer to carry out job responsibilities
- Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment.
