The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers in government, international institutions, the private sector, and civil society.

Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of more than 200 employees working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

The Diversity and Leadership in International Affairs Project (DLIA) was launched in 2017 and embodies a two-fold mandate focused on internally and externally facing programming.

We aim to take a full-scope approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at CSIS. This includes supporting employees at every level through dedicated initiatives, ensuring support from top-level leadership, and establishing a transparent process for continuous engagement and growth.

Alongside an internal portfolio serving over 250 CSIS staff, DLIA aims to promote diverse voices, facilitate meaningful conversations, and drive DEI strategy as an institutional imperative for the national security community.

CSIS is seeking a program manager to join a fast-paced team , a growing portfolio, and assist with substantial project management and administrative support .

This position will work closely with the DLIA Director to implement the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan through all the programmatic priorities and initiatives.

Candidates must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the Washington Metropolitan area. The positions will be predominantly in-person with some flexibility for remote working.

The anticipated start date for the role will be tow ards the end of June - early July.

The minimum salary for the Program Manager position is $58,000.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RES P ONSIBILITIES :

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following :

Internal Programming :

  • Provide programmatic support for all DLIA trainings and events for staff and interns , including bookings rooms, catering, and other logistics .
  • Assist in event planning, outreach, and day-of coordination for events .
  • Manage the DLIA calendar of internal programming efforts and provide ideas for events and speakers to the Director.
  • Track spending and support the development of the team's annual budget.
  • Support the Director in managing the DLIA Advisory Board .
  • Hire, oversee, and manage the programs' interns (1-2 per semester).
  • Coordinating with the interns on producing the monthly internal newsletter for the CSIS community.

External Programming :

  • Monitor developments on timely diversity, equity, and inclusion issues to support DLIA's programmatic work and the Director's external engagements.
  • Provide support in preparation for meetings, events, publications, multimedia products.
  • Oversee the necessary logistics for Driving Impact (creating the run of show s , coordinating with the guests' teams, and coordinating with internal CSIS teams for the production and release schedule).
  • Actively manage DLIA's LinkedIn and Twitter accounts and provide feedback to the interns on content creation to ensure consistent program tone and further increase the program's digital presence .
  • Support the CSIS Fellowship : Enriching the Foreign Policy Community ( scheduling sessions, reaching out to speakers, and coordinating with the fellows ) .
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and external partners ( i.e., coaches and speakers).
  • Provide research and writing support as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE :

  • B achelor's degree in Political Science , Public Policy, International Relations, or related field required .
  • 2-3 years of related experience in program / project management, event planning, and administrative skills.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and interest of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues.
  • Must have s trong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess a self-starting, entrepreneurial mind-set and be able to work well independently and in teams.
  • E xcellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills .
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects & priorities simultaneously.
  • Able to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, and creativity to changing needs and situations.
  • Experience with social media in a professional setting desired .
  • Advanced proficiency with entire Microsoft Office Suite .
