POSITION OVERVIEW :
Staff counsel office for Hanover Insurance seeking an experience paralegal for a Six-month contract to support attorney with Main and New Hampshire litigation.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL :
- Reviews new assignments and assess immediate action required
- Drafts and files answers to complaints
- Sends out initial discovery package to plaintiffs and codefendants including interrogatories, requests for production and notices of depositions
- Diaries and drafts routine motions to move discovery along at an aggressive pace.
- Performs investigative duties including the interviewing of the client and possible witnesses who were interviewed by claims prior to suit
- Drafts discovery responses in conjunction with client
- Drafts requests for plaintiff’s medical records and coordinates processing of requests with record vendor
- Drafts chronology of medical and other records
- Performs as an alter-ego to the attorney, answering routine inquiries from claims and the client
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY :
- Typically has a minimum of 5-7 years related experience.
- Associates degree in paralegal studies from an America Bar approved program or certificate from an approved paralegal program preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance defense preferred
- Strong research skills and familiarity with the Internet and other sources for investigative purposes.
- Strong organizational skills / Ability to independently prioritize tasks and multi-task.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Works well with others and establishes sound working relationships.
- Works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters.
- Familiarity with Court system and civil procedure in Maine (New Hampshire a plus), including electronic court filing
- Familiarity with tort and insurance practice and laws
- Ability to draft substantive motions.
- Computer (MS Office) and word processing proficiency
