Job Summary : The position will cross cover the Pediatric Health Center and the OBGYN ClinicCare of pediatric patients, infants to 18 yearsCare of obstetrics and gynecological patientsOrganize and administers individualized age specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care.

Supports philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the Department of Nursing.

Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, JCAHO requirements and other regulatory agencies.

Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Participates in Unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.

Qualifications : Required : Graduate from an accredited school or universityMinimum 2 years experience in Pediatrics / OBGYN patient careMust have experience of triaging, patient intake, vaccine administration, medication and patient education, patient registration / scheduling as neededMust be flexible and willing to learnSuccessful completion of all Orientation ProgramsPreferred : Bachelor of Science in NursingCertifications and Licenses Required : Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New JerseyBasic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart AssociationScheduling Requirements : Per DiemHours of operation : Monday - Friday, 8 : 30am-4 : 30pmBased on clinics needs and weekend coverage as neededMust be available to cover 2-3 shifts / month as neededEssential Functions : The Practice Nurse RN complies with the Medication Reconciliation policy.

Complies with unit and departmental scheduling guidelines. Delegates and prioritizes work assignments according to the individual associate's competence and patient care needs.

Evaluates effectiveness, interventions and revises plan of care accordingly. Implements the policies of the hospital and Nursing Department.

Performs assessment and reassessment of patients according to applicable department standards and identified tools. Performs interventions in accordance with current policy and procedure, safety guidelines and infection control principles.

Provides patient / family education according to the same documents. Sets goals and formulates appropriate multidisciplinary interventions to meet these goals.

Transmits pertinent patient information to appropriate individuals (i.e., MD, supervisor, discharge planner, etc.) Uses an understanding of the principles of acute and chronic pain management to assess each patient s individual needs and provide appropriate and specific treatment and care.

The Practice Nurse RN uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care.

Utilizes the nursing process with a multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of patient care. Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service.

Adheres to patient rights : provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records. Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors.

Listens and communicates effectively. Supports teamwork by cooperative problem-solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc.

Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions.

Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriate. Make decisions that are timely and consistent with department objectives, policies and procedures.

Demonstrates sound judgment; accepts and benefits from constructive criticism. Participate in ongoing education as required.

Assists in chart reviews. Prepares charts for office hours. Prepare schedules as necessary. Assures coverage and maintains flexibility to meet the needs of the Pediatric Health Center population.

Triages emergency calls / cases requiring immediate attention. Informs physicians of patient status and other staff as appropriate.
