What You'll Do

  • We're looking for an Underwriting Consultant to join our Business Acceptance team. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with Sales and Service teams to assess and evaluate retirement plan proposals, ensuring competitive and compelling quotes aimed at securing new business and retaining existing clients, particularly in the large market segment. Leverage in-depth market analysis to identify potential risks and challenges, providing actionable insights to address these issues. Strategically position our product and investment offerings to stand out against competitors, aligning proposals with client needs and market trends to maximize business opportunities and drive growth.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, legal, compliance and administration teams to analyze retirement plan documents, assessing their viability and risk to help make informed decisions on whether to approve or decline proposals based on thorough analysis and established guidelines.
  • Leverage expertise to negotiate and influence positioning with business partners to offer market-competitive packaging that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Support acquisition and retention efforts and promote value-added services.
  • Engage in proactive, strategic and market focused conversations to drive revenue and client satisfaction.
  • Identify market trends and lead efforts to develop and implement improved processes through the vetting of Offer Governance Committee requests and Product Validation meetings.
  • Represent Product Management in workgroups associated with HLIs, Strategic Advisor Relationships, and Advisor presentations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and provide technical expertise on a variety of topics including TRS pillars.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to internal and external customers.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Who You Are

  • 6+ years of related experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following : work experience, training, military experience, or education.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Requires strong analytical, communication, organizational and prioritization, and decision-making skills to operate independently and as part of a team.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of the retirement plan industry, including plan design, preferably within WSRS.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team with people at all job levels.
  • Independently provides coaching, mentoring, and training to less experienced employees and internal customers.
  • Promote and lead team development through shared knowledge and information with the team members in working to resolve unusual and difficult situations.
  • Provide technical assistance to other roles on procedures and task related problems.
  • Salary Range Information

    Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and / or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

    Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

    $81900 - $182400 / year

    Time Off Program

    Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

    Work Environments

    This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Charlotte NC, Raleigh NC.). You'll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
