The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Faculty Director and the Associate Director, the Program Manager of the Co-Production of Knowledge Initiative is responsible for the programmatic strategy and organization of the Center for Science and Society's knowledge initiative.

The Program Manager will work closely with research and advisory faculty, postdoctoral scholars, students, grantees, the Columbia Climate School, and external stakeholders in the development of grant programs and curriculum development.

The Center for Science and Society (CSS) brings together researchers, scholars, and practitioners in the social and natural sciences, humanities, law, medicine, and the arts to engage in interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach.

The CSS goal is to break down traditional disciplinary silos, create a new interdisciplinary paradigm of training and collaboration, and enhance public understanding of science in relation to pressing social concerns.

The Co-Production of Knowledge Initiative focuses on interdisciplinary, collaborative responses to climate and environmental matters.

This position is funded as part of the Center's Co-Production Initiative in collaboration with the Climate School .

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees the Network on Community-Driven Co-production of Knowledge Initiative.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees events and conferences, such as informal internal workshops, knowledge mobilization events, and community engagement activities.
  • Establishes and maintains connections with community partners.
  • Manages grants programs that are awarded by the CSS.
  • Creates and disseminates calls for grant programs applications and organizes the grant review process.
  • Manages the disbursement of grants.
  • Supports mentor grantees during project planning and implementation.
  • Assist with curriculum development.
  • Facilitates experiential learning projects and their inclusion into existing courses.
  • Coordinates with the Provost Office to procure new courses and degree program approval.
  • Participates in fundraising and development.
  • Prepares the fiscal year budget.
  • Develops different types of presentations and reports.
  • Oversees communications and marketing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic background in climate humanities and / or science, environmental studies, ecological sciences, anthropology, sociology, history, science, and technology studies, or another relevant field.
  • Experience with or strong interest in community-based participatory research and facilitation techniques.
  • Background in digital communications, with specific competencies in social media marketing, basic video editing, website content development, Google Analytics, and marketing databases.
  • Knowledge of Columbia University's financial policies and general accounting principles.
  • Experience with the Accounting and Reporting at Columbia (ARC) financial system.

Other Requirements

  • Experience collaborating with community groups or working in a program management role within a university or non-profit setting.
  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
  • Capacity to work independently, take initiative, and make decisions.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet datelines while working on multiple tasks.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with people from diverse backgrounds, career stages, and worldviews.
  • Strong computer competencies.
  • Capacity to quickly learn new systems and technology.
