POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Finance is responsible for supervising the operations of the accounting and financial reporting function of the District.

This position ensures the establishment of appropriate control procedures; ensures compliance with generally accepted governmental accounting standards and Florida Department of Education rules and regulations;

and is responsible for coordinating the financial and operational audits of the Auditor General and other external auditors.

  • Support activities designed to achieve priority goals identified through the strategic plan.
  • Coordinate and manage the financial planning .
  • Direct the District's cash management program.
  • Supervise the preparation of financial reports.
  • Assign and supervise work within the accounting department.
  • Coordinate accounting, billing and collection control procedures.
  • Record cash receipts and deposit all funds and assist in the District's investment program.

  • Oversee all functions necessary for maintaining the District's accounts payable system.
  • Maintain effective community relations and interpret financial matters to the community.
  • Provide coordination of activities between units within the Business services department and assist the Chief Financial Officer in coordinating activities between departments.
  • Advise and assist the Chief Financial Officer, Superintendent and other staff members on accounting policies and interpret / apply said policies to the various financial functions.
  • Provide technical assistance to assigned employees as needed.
  • Provide for the cross-training of personnel within the department.
  • Attend conferences and workshops designed to provide information on new or changed policies.
  • Set standards for self and others.
  • Maintain a network of peer contacts through professional organizations.
  • Promote and support the professional growth of self and others.
  • Provide information to the Superintendent and Board on the financial status and the wise use of its resources through business management practices.
  • Assist in the development of policies and administrative guidelines.
  • Keep abreast of legal requirements and proposed changes in areas of responsibility and provide advice to the Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer as to their impact on the District.
  • Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  • Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
  • Direct and coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all accounting functions. Direct the preparation of financial reports and statements to school, the District, the State, and the Federal government.
  • Prepare and supervise the completion of the Annual Report and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Perform related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : L-Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES :

  • Sitting Resting with the body supported by the buttocks or thighs. Standing Assuming an upright position on the feet particularly for sustained periods of time.

  • Grasping Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Repetitive Motion Substantial and continuous movements of the wrists, hands, and / or fingers.
  • Hearing Acuity The ability to perceive speech and other environmental sounds at normal loudness levels.
  • Visual Acuity The power to see at a level that allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, and inspection of machines, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Indoors / Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :

Education - Master's degree with specialization in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, or Bachelor'

s Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and designated as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government

  • Finance Officer. Experience - Five years experience in Accounting or School Finance with experience in progressively increasing leadership roles.
  • Computer Skills - Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position.
  • Certificates and / or Licenses - Must possess a valid Florida driver's license for required travel.
  • Employer conducts Background Check.

WORK SCHEDULE : Full Time

SALARY : $104,971 - $118,854. Annually. DOE.
