RN Shift : 11 : 00 AM - 11 : 00 PM (36 hours per week)
The Registered Nurse prescribes nursing care, delegates nursing activities, and coordinates the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care to provide optimal quality care, consistent with the hospital’s mission and nursing philosophy, objectives, and standards.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS :
Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

- CORE SPECIALTY
- Accepts responsibility and accountability for all aspects of patient care within the core specialty.
- Consistently has all items needed for cases within the specialty : special order items, trays and supply items always available for patient care.
Reviews schedules proactively checking for conflicts and special orders.
- Responsible for setting up new and / or making changes to instrument trays.
- Responsible for inventory counts; works to trade or reduce stock items no longer used within specialty. Makes suggestions, presents new product information with contact information as requested by surgeons.
- Ensures that preference cards are always up to date and that staff is knowledgeable concerning specialty supplies and equipment.
- Acts as a liaison between surgeons and OR leadership in ordering new items needed for the specialty.
- Actively seeks solutions to meeting turnover times within the specialty. Communicates and champions turnover goals to staff.
- Orients new staff to specialty. Responsible for specialty inservices of new equipment and / or supplies.
- RN FIRST ASSIST DUTIES
- Provides retraction by closely observing the operative field at all times, demonstrating stamina for sustained retraction and retaining manually controlled retractors in the position set by the surgeon with regard to surrounding tissue.
Manages instruments in the operative field to prevent obstruction of the surgeon's view. Anticipates retraction needs with knowledge of surgeon's preferences and anatomical structure.
- Provides hemostasis by applying electrocautery tip to clamps or tissue in a safe and knowledgeable manner as directed by the surgeon, sponging and utilizing pressure as needed and utilizing suctioning techniques, applying clamps or hemoclips on vessels and the tying or electrocoagulation of them as directed by the surgeon.
- Performs knot tying by having knowledge of the basic techniques, tying knots firmly to prevent slipping, avoiding undue friction to prevent fraying of suture, carrying the knot down to the tissue with the tip of the finger and laying the strands flat.
Approximating tissue rather than pulling tightly to prevent tissue necrosis.
Provides closure of layers by correctly approximating the layers and skin edges utilizing skin staples under the direction of the surgeon.
Demonstrates knowledge of different types of closure.
Assists the surgeon at the completion of the procedure by affixing and stabilizing all drains, cleaning wound and applying dressing.
Assists with application of casts, splints and various other immobilization devices.
- Maintains certifications, requirements and competencies for RNFA role.
