Summary / Objective

In keeping with our organizations goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Assistant Director of Nursing RN plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing services to all Guests in the facility.

The Assistant Director of Nursing RN assists the Director of Nursing (D.O.N) in the planning, development and overall operation of the Nursing Department which ensures Guests receive quality care 24 hours a day.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the D.O.N with planning, directing, and supervising the activities of the nursing staff.
  • Ensures the Nursing Department is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop, implement and update department policy and procedures when necessary or as directed.
  • Assists with staffing to ensure Guest needs and regulatory requirements are met at all times.
  • Participates in Federal, State and Local agency annual surveys.
  • Reviews any deficiencies noted by government agencies during inspections and assists with the implementation of changes needed to correct any deficiencies found.
  • Completes annual performance reviews of all subordinate staff. Provides guidance and education to staff in regards to their performance.
  • Provides counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed.
  • Responsible for training and educating staff members.
  • Assure that established infection control and prevention practices and standard precautions are maintained at all times.
  • Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, accidents / incidents and supply issues to appropriate persons.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Guests and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.
  • Ensure each Guest receives person centered care.
  • Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Guest care areas.
  • Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the transfer of Guests to different rooms within the facility.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services.
  • Recognize your role as part of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) efforts of your organization.
  • Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
  • Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
  • Any noted opportunities for improvement will be shared with leadership in the organization.
  • Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success.
  • Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.
  • Participate in compliance trainings as scheduled and adhere to compliance plan.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a health care setting.
  • This role requires regular walking to and working in various locations around the facility while pulling or pushing carts.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • This position works mostly in the Guest care and office areas as well as occasional outside weather conditions.
  • This role may also come into contact with Guests who may have contagious illnesses.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping on a regular basis.
  • The employee must be able to lift and move items and patients weighing at least 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Science, Nursing or related field
  • Graduate from and accredited nursing program.
  • Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (R.N.) License in the state of practice.
  • C.P.R. Certified
  • 2 years R.N. experience
