Job Description

Georgia Tech Research Institute's Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) seeks an intern to join our Spectrum Warfare Operations and Research Division (SWORD) team for Fall 2024.

Students will assist Research Engineers in various Hardware Development related tasks. Students should be interested in learning about aircraft electronics, equipment packaging, modernization processes, equipment installation processes, component fabrication, component testing, and employing continuous process improvement practices.

SWORD performs :

  • EW system design and rapid prototyping development;
  • Electromagnetic attack (EA), electromagnetic support (ES), and electromagnetic protection (EP) technique design, assessment, and implementation;
  • Operational concept development and analysis
  • Planning and execution of advanced EW testing and training with frequent deployments to U.S. open-air test ranges
  • Assessment and improvement of U.S. radar system EP capabilities

SWORD technologies and capabilities serve as catalysts for EW activities across GTRI and its personnel provide subject matter expertise to multiple laboratories conducting EW analysis and development.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Major
  • 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Full-Time Intern- Must be registered for Full-time Internship Credit
  • Part-Time Intern Must be registered for 6+ credit hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Task / team leadership experience
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Familiarity with office applications including Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
  • Knowledgeable with 3D CAD design and modeling software such as Solidworks
  • Experience working with machine shop tools (drill press, CNC, 3D printing, etc)
  • Component fabrication experience
  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and tools

20-40 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Persons.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
