The Quality Engineer assists the Quality Assurance Manager with developing standards within the department as well as the managing of processes, manufacturing methods, and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Work with Customers, Sales and Engineering on APQP activities for new program.
- Review GD&T, SC's, KPC's, and gauging methodology with customers on new programs.
- Work with suppliers & customers on quality concerns. Conducts investigations on non-conformance and recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Work with Manufacturing to solve in-house quality concerns, review nonconforming product and recommend disposition.
- Interpret detailed blueprints, work orders, engineering specifications, and routing sheets to determine production standards and tolerance limits.
- Determine quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes.
- Establish statistical confidence by identifying sample size and acceptable error; determining levels of confidence.
- Develop sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods.
- Analyze data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests.
- Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and making recommendations.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications;
establish personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participate in professional societies; maintaining American Society of Quality Control Certified Quality Engineer qualification.
- Practice safe working methods.
- Communicate with management any deviations of tolerances and quality.
- Assist in addressing and resolving production problems causing deviations from existing standards.
- Lead and / or assist in Corrective Actions and Root Cause Analysis.
- Write complex CMM programs using PC-DMIS and calypso software
- Coach / train Quality Inspectors as needed on CMM, gaging, procedures, etc.
- Complete all required records and paperwork.
- Research, develop, and coordinate new inspection methods and practices with the Quality Manager.
- Determine pass / fail on visual criteria under magnification and understands and can operate microscope.
Qualifications :
- Must possess a solid to higher technical understanding to support innovation and help initiate Process Improvement .
- Ability to operate optical comparator and related peripherals, micrometers, indicators, calipers, height gage, etc. Understand the care and use of pin gages, thread gages and gage blocks.
- Understand complex dimensioning systems and can identify Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance ("GD&T") symbols.
- Ability to use Microsoft programs, such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Access.
- Understanding of AS9100 and ISO9000 Quality Management Systems and Standards.
- Ability to perform PPAP, Gage R&R, SPC, FMEA, & PCAR's a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, routings, work orders, engineering specifications, and safety regulations.
- Ability to write technical documentation.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Education and / or Experience :
Associate degree and / or high school diploma with a minimum of 15 years related experience or a combination of education and experience.
Physical Demands :
- Ability to regularly stand and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls.
- Ability to frequently walk, talk, or hear.
- Ability to occasionally sit, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Ability to occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities to include close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
