Job Title : Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool Job Specialty : Emergency Room Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12-hour night shift, 3x per week Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours per week Experience : Minimum of one year preferred in nursing skills and knowledge base specific to the specialty License : State RN license or RN license from a participating state in the NLC Certifications : - American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Must-Have : Patient care skills and competencies related to the Emergency Room Job Description : Assume responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team and the patient / family.
- Identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.- Promote the optimal health, well-being, and safety of the patient using the nursing process.
- Demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care and core values.- Assess patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interviews, and review of medical records.
- Evaluate patient’s response and intervene to ensure optimal outcomes.- Develop and implement a patient care plan in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate competency in therapeutic and diagnostic interventions, including IVs, incision / wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections.
- Advocate and collaborate to protect the health, safety, and rights of each patient.- Provide patient and family education, assessing learning readiness, needs, and ability.
- Recognize the patient or designee as a partner in care, respecting patient preferences, values, and needs.- Deliver care with respect for cultural differences and diversity.
- Delegate to non-RN personnel per nursing board and hospital policies.- Use resources effectively for high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
- Serve as a professional role model demonstrating ethical, legal, and professional nursing practice.- Manage resources and patient flow by matching nursing competencies with patient and unit needs.
- Follow standards of care, hospital policies, and regulatory guidelines to guide practice.- Foster open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making in teams.
- Precept and mentor new staff or nursing students as needed.- Seek learning opportunities and continuing education to maintain skills and competence.
- Maintain professional records for evidence of competency and lifelong learning.- Evaluate personal integrity and nursing practice with standards and guidelines.
- Take action to achieve goals identified in evaluations.- Be prepared to float to different locations within 60 miles or designated zones as needed.
- Float assignments may include duties outside of the original assignment job requirements.
