Position Information :
The Director of Research Systems provides strategic direction and oversight for the RED systems which have broad, campus-wide impact, including the Kuali system as well as other related research and data systems, tools, and resources.
RED systems support an important university function of obtaining and managing extramural sponsored research grants for training and public service projects.
The Director provides direct supervision to other business systems analysts in the unit in their work related to system management, maintenance, data analytics, and reporting needs.
The incumbent functions as an advisor to the unit, RED administration, and campus leadership. The Director analyzes and resolves problems, develops, applies and interprets policies, and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge.
The full salary range for the Director, Research Systems is $87,300 - $169,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and / or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time.

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Required
Experience Requirements
- 6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
- Experience working with Kuali Research, Coeus, or other electronic research administration systems. Preferred
- Previous supervisory / managerial experience. Preferred

Must pass a background check. Required
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
- Knowledge relating to the design of processes and software across the organization.
- Advanced skills and methodologies associated with process and software design, modification and implementation.
- Knowledge of business analysis processes and procedures and alignment and compliance with applicable policy and regulation.
- Knowledge of related areas of IT.
- Strong critical thinking, persuasion / negotiation, mentoring, leadership / management, problem solving, human resources policies and procedures relating to management responsibilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication, quantitative and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
- Demonstrated stakeholder management knowledge, with the ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and staff at all levels.

Generic Scope

Key Responsibilities :
Supervises the development of methods and procedures on new assignments and provides leadership to other members of the department.
Provides specialized expertise to identify, evaluate and develop systems and procedures to meet users' needs.
- Understands business needs and how business systems can support those needs.
- Develops business processes with adequate business process controls and compliance aligned with regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance and business process controls.
Creates highly technical specifications for systems with broad impact. Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating technology and implementation activities associated with Kuali Research, UCR's electronic research administration system.
Coordinates with functional experts, system users, technical groups, and the vendor (KualiCo) to manage system functionality, coordinate system management tasks, and recommend solutions to system issues.
Develops and delivers user training; and designs and maintains reports of system data.
- Communicates technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Recommends hiring of new employees, salary actions, terminations, and performance ratings. Supervises other business system analysts in the unit.
- Supervises unit integration and acceptance testing activities.
- Oversees cross-functional teams to solve complex business or systems issues.
- Participates in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for department or department operations.
- Participates in developing and monitoring operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning.
